router block
i have a router (linksys etherfast cable/dsl 4 port) and i'd like to disable 1 computer from accessing it. is there a way of doing this without removing the cable?
because i am downstairs and the router is upstairs.. disconecting the upstairs computer would be too long to do everytime.. or if u have a quicker way of just shutting down the internet from another computer, tell me! |
If your router has MAC filtering, that would probably be the easiest way to block the computer. I'd check your manual, but you probably have to go to http://192.168.1.1 to access the settings page.

when you say accessing "it" what do you mean? the router's admin function or the internet?
use IP Filters to filter out the IP of the computer you don't want accessing the network/internet, or as firebirdta said, block based on the computer's MAC address. use a better password to prevent the user upstairs from logging in to the router admin :) |
cool! thanks i wasnt sure if that's what it was. (Y)

let's see if it works.

If it is a temp thing or the pc(s) you are going to continue using the router with are always on, you can delete the PC you want to remove from the DHCP table then lower your Number of DHCP users to the users you want to keep ( if you have 2 pcs and one should not have access, your DHCP table limit would be 1)
This would at least keep you from walking up there and unplugging cables. |
