How does one come across invites? I've got a gmail account and would love to send one to my bro.

From what I've heard, after a few days of activity, you'll get one in your inbox. They've become more frequent lately than say, a few weeks ago. I've had my account just about a week, but I haven't gotten an invite email yet.

I just got my account and dont have any invites, but when I get some, Ill be sure to post some up.

I think it also depends on what generation user you are - for instance, I was offered a 'first generation' account through Blogger and I get more invitations more frequently than ubertuber, whom I invited as a 'second generation' user.

Whoever invited you can still get the link to you if (s)he has a copy of the email Google sent to you, which (s)he should because of Gmail's infinite (almost) storage space. There is only one link in the email that you start the account with and it can be copied into a harmless-looking regular email.

Question for anybody.. how do you end up getting invites in the first place? After so much use of the system, something like that?

I have one invite at the moment. First PM (with email address to send it to, of course) gets it.

Latch there's been a lot of talk about that in the other communities, and no one can pin it down to any one thing. It's not necessarily usage, because I'm pushing 100-300MB through that mailbox every day. It's not necessarily a matter of time because I got my first three invites within 24 hours, and then didn't get any at all for over a week.

My personal thoughts, every time the Gmail system reaches an internally guaged milestone and remains stable, they figure out how many users will be needed to make the next milestone, and send invites accordingly.

I also believe that the longer you've been in the beta, the more invites you get. I say believe because I really have no idea, but damn if it doesn't make sense to think that way... :)
