what voltage setting to use?
The transformer on my router died and I have another one - but dont know if its suitable to use..
The original one was 220v/5v at 2A, and the one I'm considering using is also rated at 2A - but has only a 4.5v or 6v selectable voltage. Which setting should I use? Or should I not be so damn cheap and just go buy the right one :) Thanks for any help! |
I would go buy the right one. But...if I had to use that transformer I would set it to 4.5V. The reason why is that a lot of microprocessors, such as those like in your router, have a operating voltage range of 4.5-5.5 volts.

Much appreciated..I'll go and buy the right one, but good to know what I should use in an emergency anyway.
Cheers! |
Also to note: sometimes manufacturer's will change which foltage goes where on the connector: sometimes the center pin is hot, other times it is ground....and sometimes this can fry your gear! Yeah, I'd get the orignal unless you're really careful.
