windows update (xp pro)
pc specs: windows xp pro
512 megs ram 18.6 gig harddrive, 1 10 gig partition (windows), one 8.6 (mandrake 9.2) 120 gb external hd (usb), one 60 gig ntfs (windows), one 60 gig journalised extension 3 (mandrake) no clue on the motherboard cdrw/dvd rom, floppy drive IE 6.0.2800.1106 i tried to run windows update several times recently, and for some reason each time i try it crashes IE. it always worked before, and i'm thinking that it may be a problem with the activex control that is responsible for controlling access to the microsoft update server. my problem is that i don't know the name of the activex control, so i can't find it to see if it's corrupted, and as i don't know the name i can't replace it either. this may not even be the problem, this is just what i suspect. replies would be appreciated, and any other suggestions on what the problem might be also. |
internet options, settings button on general tab, view objects button.....the activex control is called Update Class (double click it to verify the CodeBase starts with http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
not sure what else it could be. have you tried installing updates downloaded directly from the download center? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/s...displaylang=en |
