Gamemaker Part Two

Well when I started the last thread, I was going to explain all about it, but then I figured, "Fuck it, they're programmers, they've heard all about it from experts."
But anyway, Gamemaker is a free program available at:
http://www.gamemaker.nl/index.html
and as it says ( much better than I could) on the site:
Did you always want to design computer games? But you don't want to spend a lot of time learning how to become a programmer? Then you came to the right place. Game Maker is a program that allows you to make exciting computer games without the need to write a single line of code. Making games with Game Maker is great fun. Using easy to learn drag-and-drop actions you can create professional looking games in little time. You can make games with backgrounds, animated graphics, music and sound effects. And once you get more experienced there is a built-in programming language that gives you full flexibility. What is best, Game Maker can be used free of charge. And you can use the games you produced in any way you like. You can even sell them!
So I downloaded the program, and printed off the instruction manual (all 182 pages of it!!), and I've made a little game like it says in the manual.
Is anyone else using this program for gamemaking? I don't know anything about programming, but it seems straightforward enough.

If Gamemaker allows a person who hasn't already "become a programmer" to make video games then why, on Earth, would us programmers have "heard all about it?"

My 11 year old son really enjoys playing with this software. I feel that he is learning valuable logic skills in the process.

I have looked at the sw only with a quick look. Looks like fun, and possibly good for a proof of concept, prototyping, or even producing something simple enough. Seems well made, and such.
