New Case

I need to get a new case. I just got a new motherboard and I have a full size server case and the IDE and SATA cables are not long enough to reach from the drive to the mobo. So I need a new case, I'd like to know if any one has a good case that they could tell me about?

You think it'd be easy to reccomend a case to someone, but I guess not.

I've had several cases (all mid-tower's), some generic cases, and some good brand name cases. Personally I enjoy having a case that won't cut me when i'm working on it, airflow has to be good, and the price should be reasonable. With those 3 key elements in mind, Antec and Lian-Li have never cut me, never overheated on me, but lian-li hit's you in the wallet hard.

Lian-Li's lowest priced mid-tower case is the PC-60, which has 2 front 80mm fan slots, a slot for another 80mm in the back, and one more at the top. Full alluminum (conducts heat well, stays cool), and all the goodies of it being made by lian-li (easiest to take apart, tooless entry, detachable hdd trays, mobo tray slides out for extreemly easy building).
This case will run you around 90$(u.s) and does not come with a psu.

Antec's performance series of cases run from $65-115 (most if not all come with antec psu's). For comparison i'll be using the Performance Series II Mid tower case (I have this case for my rendering comp). The one thing I enjoyed about this case was the room for 5 fan's (all of which on mine are occupied by TT 80mm's), and it's metal edges are smooth (no more cut hands). This case also came with a 350wt psu that's doing it's job quite nicely, as well as having a detachable hdd tray and plenty of room to work around in (but still small enough for your ide/sata cables to reach). This case was around 80 bucks when I bought it.

I'm sure you'll get more replies with more options, if your not willing to spend too much cash on it, there ARE some good cheap cases that have a good overall structure, I just can't comment on anything I don't own.

I would recommend an aluminum case with 120 mm fans.

Such as the Antecs.

It's the first case I ever loved. I plan on using it for years to come.

I have the same case with the window, coldcathode, and LED fans... etc. I just have to get some lit rounded SATA cables and a lit rounded ATA and I think I'll be done with it. BTW - I feel the same way you do - I absolutely love the case and I it's not my first all aluminum case either.

I hope this doesn't sound dumb, but why not just get some longer cables?

Why spend $50-100 instead of say, $10 for a set of cables?

(btw, want to buy some long cables for $10 ? PM me)

Defiantly look for a case with room. I hate installing stuff when the case is cramped. Makes it a pain and very unclean with bad airflow.

All I buy are Antec Cases now. The insides are incredibly easy to access and they fit this:

with which I definitely agree.

Oh? Just how long is..."that long" ?

This long?

There is a box in my garage which contains several dozen 1-meter SATA cables.

I have the [Lian-Li PC-6070]. I like the door that covers the drives and the sound proofing/quiet fans help reduce noise.

I agree with the above posts that the coolermaster and antec cases are all very good, but I also like the cleanliness and ease of orking with my old trusty Enlight case. They have made some design changes to their 7250 line that doesn't need rail or screws for 5 1/4 drives anymore. I use them at the company I work for and probably go through 10-15 of them a week versus 2-3 antec and maybe a cooler master once a month. Definitly worth the effort to look at the new design.

(if you want pictures of the new rails, e-mail me and I'll try to take some. I couldn't find any of the new style on the net, even on enlights's web site)

I have the Lian-Li pc6070b, and I love the look of this case. It's got soundproofing on it and an all aluminum chasis with an aluminum door. Holds everything I need. Only problems I have found so far is the aluminum panel that makes it kind of hard to reach the 5 1/4 drives and the limited airflow. Heres the link if you want to check it out:
