NVIDIA Launches GeForce 6 Series
NVIDIA Launches GeForce 6 Series - Biggest Performance and Feature Leap in Company History
Hallelujah !! The time has come! Good bye Ti4600! Quote:

Is this the PCI-Express stuff we have heard so much about hear on this forum and elsewhere? And if I remember correctly, didn't Carmack declare the 9700 Pro (when it first came out) the card of choice for Doom 3? Just wondering. Thanks
|
It's not pci express, that I can see.
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjA2 http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=2023 And I haven't been paying any attention to what Mr Carmack has to say. |
Tom's Hardware is having a shitfit over this.......apparently it's performing up to 3 times better than the 9800XT and 5950 Ultra......
/insert Ode to Joy here |
Was there a GeForce 5? Was I just sleeping for that one?

This is absolutely amazing. You guys need to check out Tom's Hardware's review of the GeForce 6800. Not only is it better than the 9800 XT and 5950 Ultra in every category, but it's literally THREE times as powerful as the best cards in the world right now!! Jesus H!! The 6800 has been benchmarked, and in various tests, this thing honestly pulls in double and even triple the results of the 9800 and 5950.
THG also said that this is the biggest videocard performance increase since the Voodoo 1 to Voodoo 2 by 3DFX. Check out the review at www.tomshardware.com . They're getting owned right now by thousands of people trying to read the review, but I'd still give it a shot. One of the THG editors simply says "Owned." after one of the tests (when the 6800 does three times better than the 5950 Ultra). Now, how much will it cost...? -Lasereth |

Cost ? Who cares ? We're bleeding edge here!
I cannot wait to crank up to 1600x1200 at 8xAA and 4xAF. Whooooo babay! |
I hope it costs eight thousand dollars

Ha ha, the 6800 requires two molex connections to the PSU. Yep, a videocard that takes up two power supply connectors. This is great. :)
-Lasereth |
And not only the agp slot, but the next door pci.
I sure hope the manu's ship the boards with a spare fan. |
That's a BEAST!
-period- |
Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me why I'm waiting to get a new graphics card until Doom III comes out and I absolutely need it so I can get something amazing. Now I know which to look at :D
Definitely curious about the starting price though. |

$499 Quote:
AGP versions will use NVIDIA's proprietary bridge that should allow higher bandwiths. I'm still reading on this, so I'm not 100% sure about how the HSI bridge works. But THG does say that new models will be native PCI-express. |

Looks like ATI's gonna be playing catch-up for the rest of the year. Things are about to get interesting.
I love this statement from Tom's Hardware. Quote:
|
ATI has their new beast waiting in the shadows, should know more in 2-3 weeks.
|
No kidding, sounds like a typical ATI strategy, responding to the newest Nvidia monster with one of their own.
|
The card looks awesome. Jsut in time too. With the tax return a new system is planned. this is definatly on the wish list. I wonder what the avaliabilty of it will be on release.
|
Crap... PCI-Express? :(
I'm gonna have to buy a new mobo too? :( I dunno if I'll be able to get it now. *sigh* |
Yeah, if you're gonna go beyond the 6800, be prepared to get a PCI-Express supporting mobo. Sucks, but that's where the future is headed currently.
|
I hope the hometown favourite (I live ten minutes from ATi's home office) can pull something off to keep these two dogs fighting. Ever since ATi started putting pressure on nVidia, progress has accelerated incredibly at both camps, and us, the consumer, are the ones that benefit from better performance at lower prices.
hoorah |
I hope this knocks down the prices of the "outdated" technology :D
|
yah its crazy big....
i heard that it will prolly have a more reasonably sized heatsink and only one molex plug in the real manufacture version... i really hope it doesnt sound as loud as some of the fx cards did... |
Is this card powerful enough for Counter-strike?
;) |
The card would issue a gigantic fuckoff if you tried to play CS on it. Nothing less than UT2K3 should be played on a machine with the 6800 in it.
|
You mean UT2K4
|
O what!!!
And I just bought a Radeon 9600XT. I know it isn't the fastest card in town but wasn't expecting to be owned within a month of purchase. I already sold my kidney for the 9600XT, how am I going to afford the GeForce 6800? Besides. my current motherboard & PSU wouldn't sustain this monster. I'll be a good boy for the rest of this year if Santa promises to deliver me a new system with 6800. |
Look! My dick is bigger than your dick!!
Look! I can piss farther than you can!! Look! My girlfriend is hotter than your girlfriend!! No, wait a minute. Geeks who get hot over this kind of catch-up probably don't have girlfriends.... :) Mr Mephisto PS - the "high end" cards you have today are fine for HL2 and D3. Spend your money on something else, or wait for the price to plummet in a few months. Sheesh... |
|
I predict that since all the hardware sites just creamed themselves over the 6800, Nvidia will crank on another $200, and drop it when ATI release their beast
|
Is this all happening before xmas? Maybe I can combine all my gifts into 1. THE one. One system specially built for FPS games.

[B] Look! My dick is bigger than your dick!! Look! I can piss farther than you can!! Look! My girlfriend is hotter than your girlfriend!! Mr Mephisto, I will keep my opinion of you to myself...!!! I doubt people "cream themselves" over the latest hardware, but it is good to know what is new on the market even if they aren't necessarily going to buy them. It's better than being ignorant and buying whatever the vendor suggests without knowing. //SiN-edit - Let's play nice, people. Thanks. |
While the 6800 does look promising, in some of the IQ test, the 9800XT still beat it. Speed is fine and all, but if it dont look purdy its no good.
Its about time Nvidia turned out something that is up to par though. Its good to see them pushing the envelope again. I cant wait to see what ATI's new beast can manage. |
True. I've been an nVidia fan for years and it's good to see them making a leap.
I hope that ATI does respond with their own release and not get wiped out or take over by nVidia. Simply b/c competition is good for the consumers. |

I do have a girlfriend, even though personal relationships have nothing to do with computer hardware. :) It's just about what you're interested in. If you're not interested in new videocards, that's fine, but don't make fun of those that are. We're the ones that aren't buying Radeon 9200 SE's and GeForce FX 5200's for $200 because they have 256 MB of RAM. -Lasereth |

OMG OMG That is hilarious !!! BTW Heatpipe on Samsung DDR3 RAM modules = orgasm. |
According to ign.com we can look for a release date around the end of April, something like April 26. I have no idea what that means for the card manufacturers though.

lol I also actually made my opinion known in the postscript. Mr Mephisto |

Stop being so touchy... Sheesh... Mr Mephisto |
Amen Mr. Meph. Sarcasm is lost on some people.

Well looks like that second mortgage is gonna come in handy!!!

I have only a passing interest in this stuff compared to Lazereth and I the fact that HE is excited makes me know this is something great. I love technology and I rely on him to help me seperate the wheat from the chaff. Different people have different areas of expertise and Lazereth is the one person that if I was doing a word association thing and the word "Video Card" came up, I would say Lazereth and the Psrink would say "huh?" Quite cool! |

hahahahahahahahaha |
Man, if I see another owned picture on the Internet that doesn't make sense, then I'll scream. People are starting to use it in the wrong context. A kitten can't help but be crammed into a glass, so he wasn't "owned," he was simply crammed into a glass.
Anyway, if I didn't get shorthanded on loans this year and have to pay for my tuition myself, then I'd definitely be getting that 6800. But, as my luck usually goes, I have to cough up $1250 with a part-time job this summer to make it back to ASU. Hopefully I'll have enough to get a Radeon 9800 Pro and new mobo and processor, but that's doubtful. :( -Lasereth |
Is it wrong for me to be turned on by this card?
|
How does the new Radeon X series stack up to this?
|
I want one, I gotta put up with this slowass Radeon 9500. I need a job.
|
x800 is a good card
6800 is a better card 6800 and x800 have very similar performances 6800 has newer technology and architecture. Both cards perform really well in all current games. If you wanna run far cry at 1600/1200 8xFSAA and 8x Anso you might still be chuging along, but for the normal user who doesn't care if he's getting 190fps or 180fps in his game both cards are good, but since they're both the same price and most everybody has extra pci slots these days due to motherboard integration of RAID LAN SOUND multi-USB I'm sure you have enough slots for the 6800 to take up one. Then again i'm thinking that 350watt psu on a system that doesn't have a lot of components would be sufficient, but if you're running 10000 rpm hard drives and a o/ced cpu you might want to go 400+ |
480W is the recommended PSU if you want one of these bad asses in your rig.
I know some of you think it's sad for someone to upgrade to one of these cards at the price they're at but look at me, I'm on a Leadtek GeForce FX5900 Ultra (256MB) and I'm gonna get the 6800/6850. Now that's sad. |
When the time comes to upgrade your existing video card, fedex me your old one. I'll send you a tin of cookies in return. Thanks.
|
Release date?
Newegg has nothing for the 6800 but they already have the X800 out. |
The 6800 should already be out.
|
For $500 it better cure cancer or something.
|
Asuka, your sig reads...
"Oh If you guys am wondering I am a guy. should have picked a different name." Should be "Oh If you guys are wondering I am a guy. should have picked a different name." :) |
shit I gotta fix that!!!
