limiting bandwidth and time online
Ok here is what I am looking to do, i want to set up a server with dual NIC's one to connect to WAN (not sure what type of internet connection yet) and one to connect to a switch, i want other computers to get access to the internet from this server, but i want to limit the bandwidth, and monitor the time spent using the connection, and having it automatically kick them offline if they pass a certain time limit, further i want this time limit to be dynamic and able to be changed remotely by a third computer (by access to the server.)
Are these features built into server 2000 or server 2003? And if so can you get me pointed in the right direction. |
I don't think there is anything like this that is part of 2000 or 2003 server as a standard module. You can take a look at Microsoft ICSA Server. I believe this will allow you to define time windows but I don't know about time limits.

those settings are all available in the gigafast router i just picked up. (for only 15bucks cdn after rebate).
You can set time and speed limits to different MAC addresses. It could also be controlled remotely, as its a router. |
hmmm im looking to help some one set up ther internet cafe, so it would need an interface that the casheir can run. i would like to base it off of windows accounts,

there's nothing preconfigured for 2003 that will build the limitations you're looking for, but you can probly find out how. googled yet? look for 2003 documentation, that's where i got all of my flow on 2003. btw, i suck at 2003, so i'm probably not the one to ask for technical details, just trying to offer what little help i can
