SACD
i need help with my cd player i got an SACD and it won't play
|
I think that you need a specially equipped CD player to play SACD's unfortunately, so you may have to return it.
|
This is correct. SACD is an entirely different format, and requires an SACD capable player. SACD players however, are capable of playing standard CD's.
|
There are some dual-format CD/SACD's out there; I have The Police (Every Breath You Take:The Classics) which works just fine in a regular CD player. However, the description specifically said "This Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD) recording offers high-resolution sound and is playable on both standard CD players and SACD-compatible devices."
|
Well, you're all correct.
Check the label of what you bought. It will tell you both what you have, and where it can be played. By the way....which disc is it? |
Have you tried playing it on a different CD player? I've encountered a few CD players that had difficulty reading dual format discs.
|
I believe in addition to the SACD player, you'll also need a receiver capable of handling the input from the player...plus full-range surround sound speakers.

Hey guys, new to the group.
SACD and DVD-A is a format war that has been brewing for quite some time now. Great stuff. I am blessed to have a universal player that plays both at their full bandwidth multichannel potential. Here goes. Hyrbid SACD do come with a stereo track that plays in most standard DVD/CD players. To get the full potential you will need a player / reciever combo. As far as cabling goes, right now you have to use the analogs (RF,LF,C,LR,RR,LFE) back to the reciever where it converts the signal back to digital. This is going to change. Now, DVD-A recently pushes ahead in this format war. Since everyone is in tune with the term "DVD" all of their new disc are going to be shipped in a "flipped" mode. Where on one side you have the multichannel high res layer, the other side has the stereo track. The DVD-A's will probably push ahead and win this war...... |

Well, in both cases I think they offered a stereo track or DD 5. 1 that is playable on most dvd players. Me personally, I can't really decide which I like better. Right now, the selection is better on DVD-A, where I feel that the quaility goes to SACD.
Yes, that is correct. The player will decode the signal then send this to the reciever via the analog connections. Sorry if I was vauge on that.....Some newer setups offer a connection using firewire/iLink which will allow you to do away with all those cables. |
