To reparition without wiping away your current data, you'll need a utility like Partition Magic or parted (GNU). Resize your current partition... then boot up the SuSE CD (should be bootable.. and tell it to use the unpartitioned space.. it should have an option to automatically partition the unpartitioned space into a linux setup (swap part, root part, possible /boot part)... it should also install Grub or Lilo, which will be what you use to Dual Boot. If the SuSE Install is good (I'm not sure, never done it).. it will automatically set it all up for you.

Suse lists as a feature that it can resize windows xp partitions. You shouldn't have any problems. The last time I installed Suse (version 8.0) the bootloader automatically recognized my windows partition.

SuSE advertises that their installer can do partitioning of winXP drives. You might check and see if you can resize the partitions using SuSE's installer. If not, I use partition magic. It's not free but it works very well.

Yeah, definitely give SuSE a try first.. sounds like that may let you do it right there.

Suse's installer is the best Linux installer I've ever used. It will do everything for you. I just leave my swap partition from previous linux installs so all I have to do is allocate space for a new installation.
