Hi

Hi.
I'm having a problem.. I think it's straightforward, so here we go.

My specs are as follows...
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
ASUS A7N8X (non deluxe)
Radeon 8500, 128 (O/C from 275/270 to 350/350)

So my difficulty is as follows. Just today I installed the newest Catalyst drivers. Now I'm getting all sorts of textures turning transparent.

What causes this type of thing? Not necessarily in my specific situation, but ever? Too little video ram or something?

For those that are going to mention it, overclocking hasn't been an issue in the past.

First thing I would say is, video driver. See if there is an alternate version, possibly a earlier release. This new version may have a bug.

1st try video drivers

2nd remove that overclock

after that, try diff drivers again.

Tearing of textures is almost always driver issues, or to much overclocking on the card.

There are plenty of moded Catalyst drivers out there. Just trying them to see what you wind up with.

You didn't mention what Directx version you're using...
Updated DX lately?

Where would a smooth pimp daddy such as myself go to check out some modded Catalyst drivers?

And what would be the dis / advantages to using them?

Lasereth 02-22-2004 04:04 PM

OC'ing a videocard causes transparent textures. I OC'ed my TI4200 just a small bit once and it made the planes in 3d Mark 2003 go transparent. I'd wager it's the videocard OC.

If changing it back to normal doesn't help, it's probably the video drivers. I've never used an ATI card, so I don't know how many of the older drivers they keep on their page.

Yeah but the overclock has brought me nothing but sweet gaming goodness until now, that's what's bothering me.. I don't want to go back to having a real 8500 :(

Also... did you FULLY uninstall the old drivers before installing the new ones?

ATI drivers typically need to be 100% uninstalled for a new driver upgrade to go smoothly.

Also, I second the motion to going back to stock speeds.

Uh.. Sure I did.

I think I'm gonna keep it. It turns some walls see-through like a wallhack :D

Fenton-J-Cool 02-24-2004 08:00 PM

Vanquish: Linksville?

I never really got an answer to this:

looks unprofessional, but god damn I love these drivers :)

tritium 02-26-2004 11:41 AM

I've used those drivers too, and I can vouch for the superiority. Omega drivers rock!

Fenton-J-Cool 02-26-2004 05:57 PM

Well, I used 'em. And they have forsaken me. They seemed pretty eleet at first, but I noticed when I maximized stuff it only went about 2/3 of the way across the screen, but all the way down. And I couldn't click any bit of desktop within that range. So, I fully uninstalled Omega, reinstalled my old Catalysts, and same deal.

My desktop still LOOKS normal though.

What's a guy gotta do? I think I solved the polygon problem that I FIRST started the thread about, but now I have this whole 2/3 of the screen issue.
Here's how a printscreen-and-paste-into-paint came out:
http://members.rogers.com/snakeyes415/cham.JPG

So, from that I deduced that windows thought I had two monitors. Theory proven. If I go into display properties it shows me two monitors, but if I change the settings on the second one it goes back to the defaults when I press OK. Two monitors are not present in Hardware Manager.

Even weirder: Notice that between my two desktops (I think the smaller one that I can't see is on the left), theres a color difference in my wallpaper. For some reason through all this I was compulsed to tint my background to match my theme better, and applied the new background to my desktop that I could see. The left side still harbours the old background.

Help?

Also Note: The image directly above is directly pasted into paint after pressing printscreen to do a screen grab, I didn't merge two images.
