Your favorite computer web sites
OK what I'm intrested to know is your favorite web site's to do with computers, like your very own top 10.
The site might have be one that gives good reviews, cheap retail prices on hardware, great advice (like this fourm :)). Really any site that you think is worth passing on to other people who are intrested in computers. Please remember to say what the site is good for e.g. www.honestreview.com - gives fair reviews |
Slashdot. It can be pretty biased, but as long as you can see through that, it is an excellent source for tech news, especially Linux and OSS news.
|
Probably well used on this forum are tomshardware.com and anandtech.com
Both give really good reviews on many things. Occasionally a bit biased as well but you could easily get over that. |
/.
|
I like epinions.com for reviews on hardware and gadgets. I'd rather hear the reviews of people like me than some biased ego-maniacs.
Although, I do find myself at Tom's quite a bit. |
|
www.bit-tech.net
Best site ever, has some of the best computer forums I've ever been to. The site itself is excellent too. |
tomshardware, newegg, slashdot, price watch!
|
After Toms Hardware got busted for fudging benchmarks a few years ago making their sponsors look better I stopped reading them.
For the most part I'll browse www.hardocp.com as well as the www.hardforums.com, www.anandtech.com, and www.slashdot.org |
www.bit-tech.com
www.overclockersforum.com www.newegg.com great sites. i learned a lot in overclockersforum...go join! |
When I'm ready for 'computer learning time', I open-apple click my 'Mac Stuff' folder. The following show up in tabs.
InsideMacGames - Game reviews and such VersionTracker - New neat crap MacSurfer - Mac news CarpeAqua - A Mac TFPer :D MichaelHanscom - The guy who took pictures of G5s on the Microsoft campus. I also tend to visit MacGameFiles, xlr8yourmac, SpyMac, Resexcellence, SecureMac, and TomsHardware at least once a week. |
besides the main sites mentioned (slashdot, anandtech, hardocp, and newegg),
i'll mention http://www.tech-report.com (reviews/news) http://www.aceshardware.com (very technical in depth articles) http://www.rojakpot.com (everything you ever wanted to know about your bios) http://www.theinquirer.net (tabloid tech news) and just so to prove that you can't take computer issues seriously all the time http://www.bbspot.com enjoy |
besides the ones mentioned....
neowin - for microsoft stuff c|net's news.com - for everything else... |
betanews.com I pop in there daily to look through the list of new betas/shareware that're out. Usually they'll post helpful items too (like new adaware reference files)..
|
I usually look at /., pricewatch and osnews
|
If you have a company and want to go the wholesale route, get an account with these guys, we have ans are extremely happy with them. About 75-80% of our purchasing comes through here.
www.dandh.com all others are already mentioned, slashdot, hardocp, pricewatch, etc. |
|
Thanks for that everyone, the response has been awesome already, by my count 21 different web sites. It’s nice to see plenty of review sites to be able to get an even balance on products. I’m sure site likes rojakpot will come very useful and you can’t beat free stuff, so I’ll be giving betanews a bashing.
Though this thread I’ve found some sites that are new to me, hope that some if not all of you have gained from it and I’m looking forward to see what else others come up with. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
I am a fan of:
[H]ard|OCP anand's the inqwell the register eric |
www.theinquirer.net -- more tech focused than The Register, which leans towards UK and Europe broadband news.
www.hardcop.com -- When Kyle Bennet isn't going off on an ugly rant, it's a great source for hardware reviews. www.arstechnica.com -- In-depth tech coverage and a very informed forum. And whatever comes up on Slashdot. |
Anandtech
Normal tech reviews and such, I go there more for the articles then news. Ars Technica Probably one of my favorite tech related sites. Great in depth articles and active forums. Driverheaven If you own an ATI VPU check this one out, home of the Omega drivers. This is one of the better ATI related site out there. Rage 3D Another great ATI resource, probably the most comprehensive around. mozillazine For all things Mozilla related (Firefox, thunderbird, mozilla). MSFN Some good Microsoft related stuff here. News and tech guides. Slashdot You all know this one. ;) |
I'm very surprised no-one has mentioned www.techtales.com - this site is hilarious!
|
|
All are great sites, on the Windows OS side I like to visit annoyances.org.
|
|
Bunch of nice sites here - thanks all
