Emule Plus question

My emule client never seems to connect to any servers. The log always says to check config you have a low id. Can anyone explain how to get emule working properly? Thanks.

My guess is that you have a firewall, correct? You need set it to allow the emule ports (not sure what they are off-hand) through to your computer.

If you connect with a LowID, you'll still be able to use emule, although it'll be harder to find sources. But yeah, that faq is very thorough.

Does the low ID also affect download speeds? If I have a basic router and only a two comp. network am I still screwed?

eyeronic, if I remember correctly, it does. The download speed is also affected by your participation level, I remember my downloads were crappy.
For all the configuration I had to do, and the excess traffic that port received (I was receving about 300 requests from unique ip's a minute, which concerned me, since with emule I had to basically disable my firewall for it to run), I didn't feel 3-7k a second was worth keeping. I went back to BT and Kazaa.

You have to port-forward whichever ports emule is using if you have a router or firewall. Either that or your ISP probably has some ports blocked.

In my experience almost all downloads are pretty slow, but emule is great for obscure stuff. I just let mine run constantly and I don't mind the slower speed...their algorithms for file sharing kick ass!

EDIT: I've never used emule *plus* but the same basic info probably applies on that version too. I only use the original version of emule.

In my experiences, Emule gets crappy d/l speeds but like Fearless said you can find some obscure shit on there.

The trick to Emule is to have something like ten downloads going at once. Each one will be slow but you will saturate your bandwith with quanity. Emule is also a pretty amazing in regards to quanity of obscure items for download.

Just don't expect to get bit torrent speeds.
