Hey, what happened to my videos?
I'm on WinXP Pro. I used to have no problems viewing videos. Now, many vidoes are only playing the sound, and not showing the video. I've noticed it most recently with AVI files (most notably, the clip of Janet Jackson's halftime).
Can someone give me an initial hint of how to figure out what's going on here? |
most likely that you dont have the codecs installed or something ahppened to the codecs.
i say you reinstall the divx and the xvid codecs. |
Probably something bad happened to your video codecs. Have you installed any recently? I'd recommend uninstalling and reinstalling them.
|
I'd be careful with uninstalling and reinstalling codecs though. You can perma-fuck your system and have to format if you install the wrong ones in a the wrong order. I've had experience. Not even system restore can fix it.

OK, I just downloaded a few codecs, and now I see Redjake's comment. Is that really a problem? Someone give me some more guidance before I make a fool of myself here.
-- Ah, screw it, I'm impatient. Just unloaded Divx 5.0.2 or something like that, put in 5.1.1, and everything is peachy. Thanks everyone! |
For the people who are reading this thread and may have the same issues, besides the d/l and install every codec you can think of method, you can always use a codec identifier tool like gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ which will tell you which codecs are needed to play a video.
