help with symantec

Ok..this computer stuff technical stuff is NOT my forte..i pay but if someone has some ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.
I have a laptop, antivirus..2002..same as my desktop..but it will not allow me to update my virus definitions..saying that they are up to date...though it's not changing the DATE for the definition service. It's all fine on the desktop...
Any ideas? Thanks for any info...
The reason for the late dates on the laptop, son was using it at his dad's for games and such...not using internet service

One reason could be, the subscription has expired on the anti-virus software and the system won't let you update. Another could be the MYDOOM virus that is currently hitting hard right now. It blocks some AV update services.

Well, here is the link for the Symantec subscription support.
http://www2.nohold.net/noHoldCust502...nonsub&alt1=us

And here is the support page at Symantec

http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/

This problem could be caused by any number of things. I assume that the internet on you computer works. I would check to see if your subscription has run out. Otherwise I would go to Symantec and chat with a Rep

People actually pay for Norton subscriptions ? You learn something new every day.

Here's a list of things you can do, from Symantec:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...e=&svy=&csm=no

That's multi-line, so you'll need to paste the whole thin, or if it doesn't work, try going to Symantec.com, click on support, go to the home & small office part, then on the bottom, where you can search documents, enter "running liveupdate doesn't update virus definitions"
