Blank DVD's

Greetings All,
Another DVD burning question. I just got a Sony 510A and I love it. I haven't had a single problem with it. Now I have a few questions: Because the Sony can burn almost anything under the sun which format is "better?" I bought a box of Memorex DVD-R to practice burning and to get to know the ins and outs of DVD burning and I am just wondering if there is a difference between the formats (-R, -RW) concerning quality, performance, etc. Are there differences or are they pretty much the same? Second, is there a brand of blank DVD's that everyone prefers or, again, are they pretty much the same? Thanks for any info.

The difference between -R and -RW is rewriteability.
(just like a cd-r and a cd-rw)

the difference between -R and +R however, is a valid matter of concern.

I know one issue is to consider which format a stand-alone dvd player will play, depends on the player...

there should be some more info in this forum about it, try a search.

Here is a site that explains everything, including with analogies.

Sometime this year dual-layer DVD burners will be released, so DVD-R's will have the same capacity as the DVD's you buy from shops (and rent from video stores ;))

This is the media i use here in this link (clicky here)

Cheap and rarely makes a coaster....10cents more gets the 4x media :)

Ritek is good, TaiyoYuden (TY), Imation, and Ricoh are also good. Use DVD Info Pro to determine who the *real manfacturer is of your media, alot of times sellers rebadge. Just FYI, if you are using a cheaper APEX DVD stand alone, you'll probably have better chances using -R media.
