I’m looking for some software to create dvd's, menus and all, i need something that is easy and powerful (steep learning curve)

I’ve tried panicle but i did not care for it, I’ve tried to get dvd architect working but it refuses to recognize the video codec of the files i want to use. (divx and xvid)

I want to be able to drop home movies on to it and have a nice layout on the disk.

You could also try tmpeg (tsunami mpeg creator) dvd creator software. Works great.
