Why does this punk have such a cool job? He's a friggin script kiddie -- and doesn't know poop about computers. I think he surfs around for 15minutes before each show and then talks about whatever outdated "hacker tool" he finds. What a loser.

hey its better than nothing, at least the guy is actually teaching hapless windows how to do useful and decently cool shit. Even if he's outdated, it's still better than useless aolwhorez learning nothing.

Cain and Able was big news in 1996. That's ancient by computer terms... we were using 200Mhz machines at the time.

Who gives a shit. We finally get a guy who knows something about computers, and is more like us than Patrick and Leo, and you complain. I think he is funny as hell. I'm sure he knows more than he puts on the show. The producers are probably "throwing him a freakin' bone here" by letting him tell us the stuff he does. Anyone who shows us how to make an x-ray vision camcorder, replace the battery in an iPod, and destroy your hard drives in a moment's notice if the RIAA come knocking (it was a joke people), and shows us how to use AIMSniff is OK in my book.

His jokes are funny if you actually watch the shows he is on a lot. They are subtle, but funny. Like the other day he said "who wants to pay $100 for Apple to replace your iPod battery? I'd rather buy more important things, like a new motherboard....." and he just kept talking after that. Laura Fisher was just staring at him. It was awesome!! :)

His lady is pritty cute too.

I have watched Screen savers for many years now, and its the best computer/geek show on tv right now, but its far from brilliant. You got to remember, the producers are probably filtering 70% of what he really wants to show.

Those who have watched the show for some time, probably remember Kevin as an intern answering the phone. Can you remember how shy he was on camera. Anyone that can overcome shyness, deserves respect because that is a horrible battle and he got through it.

He also goes home with Sarah every night lol.... yeah, your right, i dont like him lol... j/k

Ya think they are going to tell people how to use the newest tools and what not right now? Let's go around and teach every 10 year old how to do a DoS because that's what we need to be teaching them, or ways to create a worm that slows the internet to a crawl? Now which would you rather have, No geek tv, or something that at least shows something about computers? They are probably also playing to dumbing a lot of the crap they put in the show down for people. That's what it looked like to me last year when I had it. Also with the older things, we now have ways to mostly stop these things from being that big of a problem.

He's dating Sarah Lane, so he's ok in my book. And I'm sure a lot of what he knows and can do with computers isn't suitable for TV.

Sheesh. Armed with nothing more than Google.com, I could find the necessary information for a DoS attack or the source code to a worm. Let's face it, the information is out there, so why hide it? Not suggesting that broadcasting the method for setting up a DoS trojan would be a responsible use of a television signal, but a more appropriate use would be to describe a threat and protect against it.

I just feel like he's pitching himself as an up-to-date hacker type when he, admittedly, is not. I'm more concerned with his promotion of ancient tools leading some kid into trouble with either the law or simply viruses. I'd rather have a WhiteHat on that program showing folks what a DoS attack is, for example, and how to detect an infected system. There are ways of describing even the most technical of topics in ways that anyone can understand.

Get a copy of theBroken episode 1 and he'll tell you himself just how much he knows about hacking and computer security. He doesn't know jack. All he knows about are cnet.com security scripties and the methods for stealing pizza (see said video).

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but TechTV isn't for people that know an incredible amount about computers. It's for people that are interested in the subject and want to learn more -- not for people who have been with computers their entire lives.

I admit that I know most of what they put on Screen Savers and the like, but it doesn't change the fact that the show is helpful for some people. Kevin Rose may know more than you think, he may not -- but it doesn't change the fact that he's helping people that don't know much about computers learn the things they should know. I give him a high-five for being pretty damn funny on the shows he's on, all the while trying to hide the fact that he's a 100% fucking dork. If you guys want to learn the darkest, deepest secrets about hacking and computer-related stuff, don't watch TechTV. That's not what it's here for. It's aired to help people that don't know a ton about computers with average problems.

Um...why is TechTv even showing people how to use password sniffer, how to hack, or anything that is considered to be a crime?

I agree with tritium, it pisses me off when I meet people that thinks they're so techie savy and knows great stuff about hacking. Too many kids online saying the same stuff he's saying...

I like someone who admits that they don't know everything. I program Java all the time, even I can admit that I don't know absolutely everything about it.

Then do it.

it's not a crime do some of those things on your OWN networks. Sometimes people forget passwords, sometimes people do stupid things that you'd never in a million years think they would do. And as a support person, I'd have to figure out how to fix it. These tools as old as they may be... still have life and a usefullness since the techniques being employed still matter.

It would be totally different if he's bring up old hacking tools on an Amiga, BeOS, GEM Desktop, etc.

and from someone that has had the opportunity to be in front of the camera and I'm not camera shy either, it's not all that exciting. The producers found onscreen talent that passes and they didn't have to pay a premium for them.

I remember when Kris Kosach was on MTV2 when it launched, she's now on TechTV News or something like that..

It maybe some outdated info and the show is not for computer pro's but I learn stuff ever now and then because I'm pretty new all this. They speak in terms that I can learn and understand.

If the Screen Saver's start talking about really technical info, they would lose almost all of their audience. The computer pro's know where to get the latest info available. They don't need this show to learn.

Put down the remote and pick up a book. This is comeing from someone that doen't like to read alot.

I think it comes down to both I'm sure hes no computer genius...and also that its just TechTv. It is a fun network if you aren't looking for some sort of super geek alienation. I am no genius when it comes to computers but the bottom line is it isn't that huge of a deal.

I lost all respect for TechTV when they did their segment on Tech Support. They claimed that "Searchign the knowledge base" was an excuse to put oyu on hold so they could run around asking people if they've heard of the problem. That's basically saying that every tech support person should know every flaw and bug in every system that they support. That just pissed me off.

I consider him an actor with a decent knowledge of computers. I don't think you can ask for much more.
