Video Capture
Does anyone know of any video capturing software out there that is free? I don't need anything complicated (i.e. graphics and effects or anything), just something that will capture something from the television to my computer. My video card has TV out and TV in, but I can't find any software that will do it. Thanks.

AVI_IO and VirtualDub seem to do the trick for me

thanks a lot, I'll give 'em a shot

Can't get VirtualDub to work...does it only support certain video cards?
|
Ok, I tried the second one too. Doesn't work. They both say "failed to initiate capture device" or something like it. I have a GeForce 4 Ti4200 128 MB graphics card. It came with a cable that you attach to one of the ports on the card itself. The cable has a "video in," a "video out," an "s-video in," and an "s-video out."

You need to have the driver for your capture card/video card installed. It should be on the CD that came with your hardware.

my card didn't come with a CD that had drivers on it.....you get them at Nvidia.com. and I have the current drivers installed, I wonder what the problem is.

You need the drivers that are specifically for capturing video (WDM drivers). These are seperate and differ from the Nvidia drivers you speak of.
Here are the ones for your card: http://www.nvidia.com/object/wdm_winxp-2k-Me-98se_2.13 |
wow.....I searched all over for those. thanks a lot.

ok it works now. all the programs I tried previously are working like a charm :)

dang it, I bought an audio female input for the sound card so I could capture sound, and it won't work with Virtual Dub. It says it's recording audio, but nothing comes through when I play it. I know the input works because I tried it with windows movie maker and it recorded the sound. anyone know of any options I have to select? anything I'm missing out on?
