Windows 2000 BSOD At Startup - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

When I boot Windows 2000, I get the following error: "unable to load device driver"
system32/drivers/p1001vid.sys 0xc0000022

Safe mode boots fine, and I determined this driver to be the driver for my Creative WebCam. If I unplug the webcam before booting, the process goes fine and I boot into non-safe mode Windows normally. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and using an updated driver, but the same BSOD happens. I REALLY REALLY REALLY do not want to reinstall Win2k, having just done a fresh install two days ago. Before that, the webcam never gave me any problems, but I had to reinstall because of the new motherboard.

uninstall and reinstall usb drivers??

i had a friend have the same thing happen to her computer earlier this week.. but hers wouldnt go into safe mode either, ended up reformatting for her

I'd format and re-install with Windows XP. All your USB problems solved.........as well as a host of others.

Do you have Legacy support for USB in your bios? Try enabling that (or disable, if enabled)
Also, there might be a "release IRQ for USB" switch you can try (also in BIOS).

Third option is a compete re-install of the webcam software. Some info on how to do that:

I've seen upgrades of drivers not fix the problem since a particular portion of the driver didn't get out of memory...following the instructions to remove/reinstall will guarantee you get the latest drivers (note: use the latest downloaded drivers).

I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 2000, so the problems are gone. Thanks for the replies.

Well, reformatting was a bit of overkill. I'd have said to boot to safe mode, uninstall the drivers for both the webcam and the USB protocol in general, then boot normally and reinstall. Either way, it's fixed now - and that's what counts.
