What's wrong with my IE?

This is a new one for me. I think my Internet Explorer might somehow be corrupted. I'm running XP Pro Sp 1 on an Aopen 155G laptop with all updates installed.

A day or two I noticed something funny. Everytime I click on a link that opens a new browser page it corrupts. I get a blank page that just shows whatever it was on top of. That's usually my desktop or all or part of the original IE window. I reset all my internet settings, and I haven't installed anything lately that I can think might account for the problem. If I just double-click the explorer icon the new window opens fine. What gives? Can anyone help?

The reason IE has no content in its content window when it starts is because it hasnt loaded a site. This is more marked on slower computers or computers witholder operating systems.

While its trying to create a connection or load a page, the window keeps a screenshot in it because the programming doesnt refresh the screen, so its not a bug, per se, just really bad programming.

During this time, IE also reinitializes all the utility bars you may have running, which can take a long time, and frequently crash, so it would be a good idea to disable any of those, if you are running them. It will make your computer more efficient in the end.

On a bad connection, IE can hold that state for a long time, especially with wireless and dial up connections. If time doesnt help it, the perhaps its time to switch to a different browser.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help guys but that's not the problem. I have a gig of memory and a new centrino processor. The problem just started a day or two ago. It's not done anything remotely similar before. If I click and drag the new explorer it corrupts the information inside of it. Whereas I always welcome help, I am aware I can add a new browser. I can do that at any time, but that was not exactly the help I was looking for. As much as I appreciate the intent, it's not an awful lot of help to just say "change your browser".

I've tried all of those Windows Internet browsers, and I can't get into any of them. If you use Ad-Aware and Spybot, don't do anything stupid, and configure the settings how you want them, I personally like IE better than the others. A few friends of mine have hit the craze of third-party browsers as well, but they all admit that they get annoying as hell after a month or so. There's literally nothing IE won't do that I want, and it's never given me trouble in the past. I don't see why everyone bashes it.

I agree 100%
I've forced myself to try others, but I just can't stand them. IE never gives me problems.

By the same token, IE never gives me anything but problems. Since I switched to Firebird a year ago, I havent been happier.

Anyways, enough thread-jacking :D, carry on...

Well finally fixed the problem. What a pain that was. It seems Windows will never be completely free of bugs. If anyone has a similar problem I fixed mine using these instructions http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/ans...#blank_windows

Gotta agree with Sailor, check out Firebird. You won't be disapointed.
