Hooking up my Computer to my Stereo Reciever

This is what I want to do. I have a copy of my cd collection on my hard drive in mp3 format and I would like to hook it up to my stereo receiver (which is up stairs) so that I could listen to my mp3's instead of finding the cd and putting it in.

Do any of you know of a relatively easy way to do this? I am not interested in spending too much money.

It's just a matter of using the proper wires. I'm assuming you already have some speakers for your PC, and a sound card. either way if you want to keep those connected, and use the receiver, you'll need a mini-jack or two. A mini-jack has a male 1/8" connector to plug into your PC. Then it's basically a splitter which has a female 1/8" connector(for the PC speakers) and a female RCA connector. Then you'll need to run some RCA's to your receiver. I did the same thing to my PC. Although, I didn't have to run wires upstairs. I'd imagine you're gonna have to try to drill a hole somewhere to accomplish what you want.

I'd get you a link for what you need, but I'm on the way out the door.

Yep it's easy, you can just plug your computer into the stereo's aux input. If you need a really long cable it'll probably be easier to find an RCA cable, then get an RCA-to-miniplug adapter to plug it into your sound card.

My sound card is hooked up to my 30 year old Marantz receiver.. it sounds great!

For my laptop I'm doing the same thing, but I'm getting an audigy2 nx (external usb soundcard ~$80) so I can use the digital outs!
