Homepage changing
I went on a website and it added a bunch of favorites and changed my homepage. Even if I switch the homepage, everytime I start IE (on win 98se) it goes back to the one I don't want.
I know that a script was run to cause this to happen but I don't know how to revert back to the way it was and I don't know how to keep it from happening again. Any suggestions? I'm sure this is rudimentary for most but not me. Paul |
Install, update, and run Adaware and SpyBot. That should take care of the problem.

Don't forget to do Windows Update too, and do all your Critical Updates, there's a patch for a vulnerability that allows that kind of crap to get on your system. Do it at least once a week....also, see the other spyware/hijackware threads in Tilted Computers, there's a lot of good stuff there.
Also the free virus scanner at http://housecall.trendmicro.com might find something, give it a shot. |

As suggested get ad-aware and spybot if you don't already have them. You should also try CWshredder, it is specifically for removing homepage hijacking spyware. You can download it Here

the thread here may help you out: http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread..../83/qid/709135)http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread..../83/qid/709135
Theres a fair amount of stuff to sift through to find the relevant stuff. I definitely agree with everyone that said get spybot, adaware, and CWshredder. A friend of mine had this problem and he was able to get rid of it w/ the help of CWshredder (spybot/adaware/his antivirus didn't detect anything wrong. |
