Nice Rack

I'm here to brag about the new server we picked up today ;)

specs:
  • MB: SuperMicro X5DPE-G2
  • Processors: 2x Intel Xeon 2.4/Xeon 2.4/533 Hyperthreading
  • RAM: 6 gigs (can hold up to 16 gigs) ATP 1024 PC2100 ECC REG
  • RAID card: 3ware 7500-8
  • 10x MAxtor 200GB/7200/8 6Y200P0
  1. 8x RAID 10
  2. 1x O/S
  3. 1x COLD SPARE
  • Slim CD-ROM
  • floppy
  • Triple Redundant 650W Sparkle Power Supply

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise was just installed on it and its humming away on the desk. We have to get a rack for it and the RAID 5 array we have in another room, and it'll be a HOT setup.

With this new addition to the family we have almost 2 TB's of space :D :o

With the new addition we now have 4 servers.

Anyone else care to share their specs?

I'm using my old K6-2 400 MHz as a server. Works great! :)

We just have an elite home network.

We may co-locate the new one and use it for something hip, but as of right now it'll be the mail server.

Silverbrain 12-27-2003 05:43 PM

I wish I had someplace to justify that kind of hardware, but a 4 computer home network just wont cut it. What exactly does one need 2TB worth of storage space for? And what methods do you employ to backup 2TB?

I also have a 2T server at home, running out of space *again* so looking to add another 2T, which means yet another case upgrade, haven't upgraded to 2003 yet, still running w2k advanced sever, did pick up the OS, just havent gotten around to installing it. its only a single CPU since its a file server.

total disk space though around the house is about 4T's now.

Backing up is a variety of tape, DVD and internet backup.

i like that case and setup though, nice to have triple redundant, i've been toying with getting a blade setup, maybe with i2's, but only because i need an app optimized for i2 otherwise i'd be a waste of CPUs, sicne i primarily use it for file and print serving.

are you running 1G ethernet off of it ?

How much was it ?

We're just running at 100 Mbit right now, We need a gigabit switch before we can run that fast.

Suggested retail for this server was 9k but we got a good deal on it :o ;)

The new server is in a RAID 10. It's storage is mostly used for backup. (of the previous TB)

We like to collect things. :|

charliex 12-28-2003 12:51 AM

even at 9k its pretty good

pity about the 10Mb i bet its just idling all the time :)

ChrisJericho 12-28-2003 01:37 AM

But the REAL question is......... what kind of video card does it have?

;)

SiN 12-28-2003 01:48 AM

SeXxXaY!!@!1! :D

/me wants one too ;)

Sabu 12-28-2003 06:44 AM

isn't that a little too overdosed ? ;) what did your 'mailserver' cost you ?

tinfoil 12-28-2003 11:20 AM

Nice, and probably louder then my 3 X-Serves.

Wait, I don't think anything is louder than a damn X-Serve.

manalone 12-28-2003 12:20 PM

wow, you must be providing mail for the indian sub-continent :)

If you're running sendmail the security holes will fly past...

thanks for posting

twizzler 12-28-2003 02:45 PM

If you had read the thread through, you would have seen that it is not only going to be a mail server. (storage and soon to be (hopefully) co-located)

OMFG... I'm not worthy... although I'm saddened to see it's an M$ box... Win2k3 is your best choice if you aren't comfortable with *nix and actually want to put it on the web...

I already have a freeBSD server. ;)

bltzkriegmcanon 12-29-2003 09:41 PM

I'd hit that.

I don't know quite what to say when I gaze upon Lingerfelter-supercharged Z06 Corvettes, either.

May God rest his soul, dear John.

Drool :|~~~

Nice. I wish I had the kind of money for something like that.
