Websense again...
 

Our school network uses Websense to block sites (sex, nudity, sports, games, lingerie, download) but yesterday the network was down and yet some people were able to get through but they would not say (bastards).

Any way to get around Websense or network configurations?

...and they recently (past week) disallowed AOL Broadband or AOL Instant Messenger for being able to connect. I know there have got to be some network gurus here that would know something about this......please..

We used to use that in high school until the admin blocked it. If your admin hasn't blocked it, it allows access to any website ya want.

We've had this disscusion ad nauseum already here. It's there perogitive to block what they wish on a network wholly owned by them.
I also recommend a proxy for port 80 (www pages) as those filters can be over confident in what they block (mamograms???)
However, you'd have little to no luck ever convincing anyone that AOL (why on earth would you want that:confused: ) or AIM are needed for what your expected to do as a student.
In fact, AIM has no academic or business applications which just leaves you wanting to use school property to converse with freinds on school time and money.
Forget about AIM, use email and phone calls, and look into proxy's.

And yes i dislike AIM, it's caused many to forget how to communicate as it lacks all that makes human comunication so, well, human. No real conversation has ever occured on AIM. Sure much is typed, but little is actually said. A :) is not nor will ever be a smile from someone your speaking to.)

I use AIM to communicate and talk with kids during class that are not in the same class. Do you suppose that, in the middle of a lecture in Stats that I take out my cell phone and call him? I am sure the teacher would love that.
