I don't have the dough to spring for an iPod, but through coupons and such I just picked up a Nomad Jukebox 3 from Dell for about $160. It's shitloads bigger, definitely not as cool, but the key word --- hear it comes --- affordable.

I will, however, stick an iPod on my Christmas list this year and maybe someone will come through for me. Until then, with my cash, I'll just take what I can get.

it's one of the reasons after my Apple II+ I didn't move to Mac... i was young and couldn't afford a Mac... but a PC was more affordable.

I just refuse to pay premium for technology that's going to depreciate so fast.

i have the 5GB original Ipod right now, and im seriously considering moving up to the 10 or 20, just because of the touch interface, which rocks, there is no better MP3 player than the ipod

I have a 20gb ipod I got about 3-4months ago, and having seen the new ones I'd seriously consider upgrading (that and I need more space). Personally I dont think I'd miss a radio or a record function, although if I were still in Uni it might have come in handy for recording lectures

I have a 5 gig iPod and don't see a compelling reason to move up. More space would be nice, but I've got different playlists I can load onto my iPod with just a few minutes notice.

I agree a radio receiver would have been nice, as would an FM transmitter. I don't need recording ability but can understand why others would.

isn't there an accessory which allows recording? i know there are attachments for FM radio - see griffin technology's <a href="http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/ifm/index.html">iFM</a>

I've got a 20GB model now and have had it for 8 months or so. I great investment if I do say so myself. Although my collection now exceeds it's capacity so that 30GB model is looking pretty sweet!

Yep, shelled out for a 15 GB last night...I had been holding out for a few months because of rumors about the new line.

Recording...it's hidden away in a diagnostic menu, but it's there. I'm guessing Apple will wait a few months before getting us back into stores to buy a microphone add-on.

I happen to be a student and am only able to get a $30 discount. Where is the $100 discount you speak of?

has anyone heard of the supposed Ipod killer with voice-recognition, standard 40GB HD, etc?

I checked out the new model last week and didn't like it at all. I think they seriously ruined the design of it. Sure it's thinner but pressing buttons for everything doesn't feel intuitive as the original ipod. I have an original 10 gb with the touch scroll wheel.
