Surfstation for a pub ?

Some friend of mine called me for help and well i call you now for help

He wants to install 2 pcs in his pub for people to surf , BUT he doesnt not want that people can do anything else.

For surfing i would make a proxy so i can filter and manage what urls can be reached, but how can i make a win2k machine so safe that the user cant do anything than surf ?

Anyone some ideas, links or software to make this possible ?

thx in advance

This might not be as easy as it should be, but it's not very hard, just tedius. The only way I know of doing things like that is go to start->run then type mmc. This will bring up the Microsoft Management Console. From there, choose file->add/remove snap-in. Once at that screen, hit add and a list will pop up. From there you can play around with all the settings you would like to have on these new computers. The ones I'd check out first are Group Policy, Users and Groups, and Security Configuration and Analysis. The group policy will allow you to disable just about everything on your computer that you don't want the customers to use, and unless they're pretty computer knowledgable, they won't be able to undo it.

Anyway, I hope this is what you're looking for.

EDIT: Also, look into disk quotas for limiting the disk space they can use.

you can also run IE in kiosk mode, but you'd have to disable alt tabbing and alt f4 etc, its only a very simple mode and easy to get around, also it doesnt show an address bar

iexplore -k

Or you can go the security through obscurity route: install some form of Linux, and they will all be too baffled to install anything else on it

Maybe he should install a wireless access point instead? D-Link sells a unit just for this purpose - public surfing.
