Best Microsoft Messenger

Does anyone have any preferences for either of the Microsoft IM'ing: MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger? I haven't used either so I don't know what's what with them. Who uses what and which is better. Thanks

With the msn messenger add-in for windows messenger they are roughly the same. I prefer MSN messenger for ease of use and webcam stuff. You need windows messenger anyway for stuff like remote assistance and the like, but you can just use it when needed.

I use MSN Messenger 6.1 and apart from the inherent gayness I haven't got any problem with it.

Uhh Mahler, last time i checked Windows messanger was an inherant part of the NT api used for communicating between users and IT's that was occasionally invoked by programs that would use the WM template and fill in the needed data for you to respond ok or cancel to.
It's not there to be used as an IM program unless someone has created a hack that utilized it.
It's better known for it's weakness to udp port out of network messages that allowed it to convey spam, but i've never heard of it used as a a full on IM program before. Perhaps your thinking of something else?

arch's got it right.

in short

MSN Messenger = AIM/ICQ/Chat
Windows Messenger = SPAM (unless in a work enviroment, where it does have uses)

i prefer windows messenger. it's a lot less bloated than msn and it doesnt have all the stupid games and icons that msn has.

Have to be a bit careful here because I know that both Juan and Arch13 know alot more about computers than me, BUT....

I believe you guys are referring to the windows messaging service and not windows messenger. I got this quote from the services index for XP "MESSENGER Description: Transmits net send and Alerter messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger...." I have my messenger service disabled to stop those hacker pop-ups, but still use both windows messenger and MSN messenger for chat and such.
