Windows XP
I know that Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 98SE, Me were horrible operating systems that crashed daily, but XP is amazing. I have had almost slim to no problems with XP at all.
My computer: AMD Athlon 850MHz 512MB RAM 40BG HDDD 64 MB GeForce2 graphics card (replacement, first one crapped out) Generic sound card The computer (HP Pavilion) crashed daily and was horrible. Once i got XP installed, it was awesome. The computer was faster, did not crash in the first couple months and has only crashed twice in the past year or two. Simply amazing. Thoughts on XP at all? |
This thread is two years too late?

I got my computer three years ago and put Windows ME on it. It crashed constantly. There were times where it took six tries to boot up before I gave up. I waited a couple months after XP came out to install it and have had a few problems with it, but nothing like what I had with ME.

ME is the worst OS I have ever laid eyes on.
*shudder* XP isnt bad. XP (and 2k--XP is essentially a prettied-up version of 2k) are the best OSs Microsoft has ever put out. I also run Linux (surprise, surprise ;)), and while I like it a lot, I dont think it is quite ready for the mainstream. |
2000 is also rock solid, and dont need all the memory that XP dpes, so it will work well on older machines

To any idiot who doesn't like XP....
.... just wait till Longhorn. :p ;) |
XP is the best OS that's been released. I don't see how people say 98 or 2000 is better. XP is 2000 with more features. 98? Give me a break! I haven't installed a driver since XP came out (not counting video drivers). That's where XP shines: plug and play. You put something in your computer and it automatically works...people have been wanting that for 10 years. There's rarely in problems with hardware in XP, but I have to say that if there is a problem, you're usually not going to be able to fix it (if it's a compatibility issue).

I am using ME and have had few problems with it. My main complaint is the slow boot up.

I like using WindowsXP, it runs more stable than any other windows i tried before.
But there are 3 things that i dont like aboout XP. First: Windows Messenger. Second: The online registration and updating system that cant'be run with the corporate version of XP. Three: I cant change some files like windows ini files so it doesnt workt with DOS applications. |
windows messenger is easily removed. have a look around google. don't know about #2, but can you do updates selectively via the main ms download pages instead of the windows update program?
