Encrypting/Passwording a file
 

Currently I am stuck with no internet at home, so if I want to send a file to friends or family I have to come here to the school and send over one of their computers, which are closely monitored.

I'm allowed to send files, but I'm kind of paranoid and would like to be able to encrypt/password this file at home so that I might be able to safely send it to someone without worrying about the possiblity of them viewing the file contents in the event that they saved it on their hard drive.

Would be files sent from XP Pro to XP Home computers.

zip the file up using winzip and add a pass using winzip.

it reduces size and adds security

PGP

Definately use GPG or PGP. PGP has an option to create a self decrypting archive which allows you to send files to a friend who doesnt have PGP (you just have to decide on a pass phrase)

GPG or PGP is tight, but GnuPG (GPG) took me some time to get going. Not difficult, just a number of steps to undertake.

If it's not terribly sensitive, just use the password protection in WinZip.
