anyone know a solution to my usb problem

Ok, ive got a USB mouse and modem, The mouse is a logitech mx500, modem, IP wireless.

Anyway, my problem is this:

Every now and then, usually when playing games, my mouse freezes accompanied by 2 beeps. Sometimes the mouse will reboot and begin operation once again with 2 more beeps a few seconds later. (the beeps coming from the sound card)

Sometimes however, the mouse stops and windows says that an unknown usb device has malfuntioned. I have to restart in this case. It has also once happened to the modem, but most frequently the mouse is the one that dies.

I know its not caused by the modem cause it still happens if the modem is not connected.

Any suggestions as to the cause, and solutions.

Any help will be appreciated

I would suggest making sure your drivers for the mouse are updated.

Is the mouse USB 2.0?
Are your USB port 2.0?

The more info you give, the better we can help.

my mouse is usb1, and so are the ports, i have the latest drivers, but im pretty sure its not the mouse as a similar problem occured to my usb microsoft intelli mouse, although it never crashed. but it did freeze and beep.

I can use the ps/2 adapter, but i find the curser shakes on ps/2 for some reason. im just unlucky with mice i spose

thanks for the help.

it also may have started happening shortly after updating from win2k to xp, but im not positive. is it possibly the motherboard. how do you tell which motherboard youve got, i dont have any documents. surely windows has a way. i had to flash the bios to get xp installed so it might not have native support of some things.
