How do you create pdf files?

I want to send my resume, but I have to send pdf files. Anyways, I have that OpenOffice.org program and that pdf153 or whatever it's called, now what?

The usual way to create a PDF is actually to print it. No, im not being sarcastic. If you have a PDF generation tool installed, such as Acrobat, choose File/Print and select the PDF writter/printer. It will then prompt you for a save name, and give you options on security etc.

You can usually find free PDF converters on the web.

Here is one that I use.

I use one called Jaws PDF Creator. It integrates beautifully into MS Word.

I think the shareware version has a watermark.

i use PDF Creator. free. open source.
<a href="http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57796&release_id=173100">here</a>
(its in the pink section of the page... download the .exe unless you want source code.)

it's pretty cool. after it's installed, you "print" it to pdf by selecting it as the printer. then a dialog comes up for where to save, name of file, etc....

Make sure whatever you use doesn't make you look like a dick. Off the wall programs, tedious bullshit will get your resume bounced.

Use the industry standard. Don't cut corners on your app for career.

Do the right , mainstream thing. Get cocky after you score the compensation interview.

Huh?

OK, I was trying to be nice to a TFP member. I did not want to be rude.

<i>cub4life78</i> forced me to be simplistic.

''Adobe PDF is a universal file format that preserves all of the fonts, formatting, colors, and graphics of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. PDF files are compact and can be shared, viewed, navigated, and printed exactly as intended by anyone with a free Adobe Acrobat Reader.'' (From Adobe's website)".

In other words, if you don't know how to create a pdf by yourself, then maybe you should not apply for the job.

If you use Linux at all, I believe several of the distros have a built in tool to print to PDF files. Not sure exactly which app does it though. Might want to do a search on Google.... plus you don't have to worry bout licensing fees like that of Acrobat.

I don't see anything in the original post that specifies what kind of job the poster is applying for.

So are you saying that all jobs require knowledge of how to create a PDF file?

juanvaldes 09-29-2003 04:15 PM

file -> print

strcrssd 09-30-2003 06:04 AM

With openoffice 1.1, it is just file->Export to PDF (or something very very similar).
