Next IE browser?
 

Does anyone have a guestimation as to when MS is going to be releasing a new version of IE? I like some of the new features of some of the new browsers out right now (netcaptor, irider, Mozilla, etc.) but I don't want to commit learning a new browser if I know that MS will be releasing a new browser in the near future.

They won't. MS has officially ceased IE development as a standalone program. You'll get patches for what's out now, but we won't see anything dramatically new until Longhorn, the next OS, which isn't slated to hit until 2005.

I prefer Mozilla, myself, but you can get MyIE which uses the Explorer backend but features a lot of the competitor's advantages like tabbed browsing and tab bookmarks.

i would recommend mozilla, after using IE6 and having it crash multiple times and losing work it just pissed me of. No such probs with Mozilla, plus it loads pages slightly faster, well not really, but it renders the html as soon as it gets it which means u get the bulk of a page quicker in my experience. One prob though is it is a little memory hungry. but that may just be my laptop struggling!

I just downloaded it today, have been using it and I'm really impressed. From what I understand, it's based on IE so has the same functionality but adds loads more options.

Anyways, I saw the other thread and figured i should mention it.

For those of you using Mozilla complaining that it's a memory hog or a little too slow you might want to give Firebird a chance. It's bacially Mozilla, but only the browser component of Mozilla highly optimized. You can find it on the mozilla.org home page.

only thing holding me on IE is Google Toolbar, i really like it a lot. Does anyone know if it works with firebird?

The only reason I use the google toolbar is to stop popups and mozilla does that nativly.

I do, however, use a 3rd party form filler (robo-form) because I haven't found a way to export my saved passwords. Yes, its a security risk, but if you can get around my firewall, guess my username (no, its not administrator), AND guess my password that is case sensitive and contains alpha and numeric characters, then you deserve to get them :)

Mozilla just seems nice these days.

Hahaha, ok, I guess that is a nice feature, but I dont really use it, so its not a loss if I don't use IE :)

You can set it in IE so that the address bar is a Google search. If I want to search for "big titties", I just type big titties into my address bar and it does a Google search. Just click on the Search button at the top and find it in the options.

can you do that in firebird?

I dunno. I do that MyIE2.

OK, I've been using myie2 and I love it. Few questions:
What download accelerator do you guys recommend to use with it? I used to use something called download express, it was freeware and worked fairly quickly, but it isn't integrated very well with myie2. I also tried leechget but I don't really like it as much. Any ideas?
Another thing I miss from the regular IE is the image toolbar that comes up when you hover over an image for a few seconds. Is this feature also part of myie2?

Firebird is even faster. You can set up "keywords" for your bookmarks; for instance, I type Ctrl-L to focus my address bar, then type "g lorna morgan" and I have a Google search for a woman with very beautiful breasts. Using 'gn' does a Google news search, 'gg' does Google groups, etc. Set up as many as you want.
