Kazaa downloading problems
I recently moved back to San Diego State, and last year they allowed people to use Kazaa, but now they have it blocked. You can connect onto Kazaa, but not transfer. Does anyone know a loophole to gain access to downloading?

This is way harder than I ever thought it would be. I looked on KazaaHttp, but its trialware, and being a college student. I'm poor...and everything on those links totally lost me. ports, and firewalls confuse the crap out of me.

Ah.. then you probably will have problems. KazaaHttp is the easiest program I've found.. it's almost "install and forget" simple, might need to customise a setting or two, depending on your connection.
Might as well download it and give it a go. It's valid for 20 days, you can at least see if it's what you need in that time. |

OK, so I downloaded it, and figured id just try it, and pay up. Well, it doesn't work...it now won't even connect. Is their some connection I can change? Latch If you can give me anymore help that would be awesome, or if anyone else can help me out that would be sooo kick ass!

If it is screwing you up now, go to Start->Programs->KaZaaHTTP->Monitor and uncheck the "Run at Windows Startup Box", as well as the "Automatically Configure KaZaa". Then go to Start->Programs->KaZaaHTTP->KaZaaHTTP Stop.
In KaZaa, go to Tools->Options (or KaZaaLite Options, or KaZaa Options), go to the tab that holds in the info about the proxy stuff (you'll see it.. should say socks4/socks5, proxy server, port, username, etc).. clear that out and uncheck all the boxes. If there's a dropdown box for the proxy type, choose none (if available). I can't remember the exact wording and stuff, sorry. I'm currently on Linux (don't start w/ the WINE stuff, guys hehe).. so I can't just load up KaZaa and check myself. Hope that helps you to at least get back to the point you were at. Oh, and finally go to start->settings->control panel->add/remove programs and remove KaZaaHTTP |

either that or start using bittorents instead of kazaa....most colleges haven't figured that one out yet. Plus, it's configureable to which ports you want to use with the BT++ client, so if they block a port, just reconfigure for a new one.

If anyone has success at a Cali Uni let me know. The admins are pretty savvy around here. I doubt the issues you're having are port closures--they're usually packet shaping to ensure everyone gets equitable bandwidth.

smooth, I'm in a CA university. And so far the only loophole is bittorents and mIRC. There's someone on my floor who is working on a loophole, but so far nothing. I'll post back when he figures out what to do. For now I'm having my sister send me the songs via email.

I have given up. I have tried everything I can think of, KazaaHttp is blocked. Bittorents aren't working right, mIRC glitches up, and soulseek doesn't exsist anymore. Today is a sad sad day. Not only has the school won, but the RIAA has too. I know there are many CU college students out there. If anyone figures out something please PM me!

Today is a great day!!! I found a program called Ares. It bypasses all firewalls, runs a little slow and may take forever to connect to a user. But it works. go to www.softgap.com and download the software. Thanks everyone for their help!

I could not make that Ares thing get around the firewall. I still recieved horrible speeds.

Having said that, I don't think there really is a surefire way to get around the firewall. I've tried several programs without any success yet. Maybe someday soon.

Errr, I probably did something wrong or else I don't know what I'm talking about... but when I installed Ares, it enabled file sharing on both or my hard drives and I was suddenly sharing over 1200 files! But I did manage to easily download an REM song before anxiously uninstalling it.

So, I get on the PC this morning, and figure I'll download a few songs. It takes my PC like 5 minutes to connect, meanwhile I am freaking out because I think that they caught on. Well long story short, they did catch on. Our school blocked softgap and download.com to stop us from getting the software. But it still connects....for now. Now I just know not to turn my PC off.

Since KazzaLite is basically Kazza minus adds and such, it also does not work for me.

I could dial up and get that. The only thing that expanded for me with my move to college was my bandwith, and I feel like it is being wasted.... it's not that big a deal, I just like to complain.

So I in my room today and my RA walks in and goes, you know how to download music. And I look away and go NOOOOO.... and he's like well if you could get me a copy of that software that would be great! and walks off. It is really sad how no one cares about the RIAA and their hopeless fight.
