Learning Flash Animation
 

I was wondering how to get started in flash animation. I have quite a few ideas that I would like to do, but I don't really know where to even start. Please share any programs, hardware, techniques, tutorials, or anything else that has been helpful in your experiences, if it's not too much trouble. It will be greatly appreciated.

I have been interested in this too. I could use some info also.

I did a Flash Animation course a little while back and I was absolutely suprised at how easy Flash is to learn. If you're aren't interested in learning it via a course then I definately recommend using the built-in tutorial that comes with Flash, I took a look at it after completing the course and have to say that Macromedia have developed an extremely user-friendly tutorial for beginners.

You could also try www.learnthat.com, they usually have good free tutorials/lessons regarding multimedia programs and certifications.

Flash MX is the program you want. It is, in my opinion, the most user friendly, powerful Flash creation tool around. I think you can find a 30 day demo of it from macromedia's site. You'll also want Dreamweaver MX and Freehand MX, along with Photoshop 7. Lot of programs, and they can really add up in cost. I would suggest Flash MX, and go all the way through every tutorial they have. It's a good starting point. Also helps to have a good programming background. The trial versions of all those programs should be enough to let you decide if you want to take it farther.

Hey Mr.Deflok, I was trying to access the site you mentioned but it doesn't seem to be working. Are you sure you typed it right?

Easiest thing to do is to jump right in. That's how i learned, and that's how i learned photoshop. It's not a graceful process and some advanced level stuff is best learned by looking a tutorials, but it's fast and really quite painless. Go on...:p

I just started learning flash & I gotta agree it is easy. Ive used photoshop for years & alot of the things I learned playing with photoshop are aplicable in Flash. The timeline thing was puzzling at first because it is new to me.
I would recommend going through the lessons in the help section. Also If you have kazaa & youre that way inclined, search for a doc called the flash bible or the flash 5 bible. It walks you through everything & the learning curve is reasonable.
& dont be afraid to experiment.

If you have the ability to learn Swish2 as your learning Flash. You will thank yourself. I dont know even where to start how much this has aided me. Im still learning it as well as Flash, but I wish I would have started it at the same time.


***Update I just went to the site to give you a link and now they have SwishMX which looks even better. Theres a 15 day demo to try it out or . . . . hmmmm hmmmm hmmmmm hmm hmmm hmmm

Macromedia's Flash has a built in tutorial.
I followed that.
It was straight forward and when I finished it I could do it.
Its so much simpler than I expected it to be.

Then just practice practice practice.

don't believe anyone that says learning flash is easy.
it may have been easy at around version 3.0 but it's now a developers world. So you need to learn actionscripting if you want to pursue a career in flash. I started making my switch around version 4. Flash MX's version of actionscript is the most user friendly yet. So do you research, and get inspired by looking at some professional sites. Good Luck.
