Creating a Auction Website.
 

Does anyone know if there is a software package out there so I can build an auction website similar to E-bay, u-bid, etc.

Or do they creat those website themselves?

I would surmise that eBay was custom written.

There might exist some commercial or open-source software to provide functionality similar to eBay.

Aside from the exercise of coding it, I'm not sure of the benefits to recreating what has already been done.

Archetype and Fairmarket are two off the shelf auction packages commercially available.

I have a customer that uses both, and they love them. They started trying to build their own solution and found the total costs to be significantly cheaper with these two providers.

There is no way I could code such a website. I though there would be someone out there that could sell a prepacked one.
