Digital Cameras
I was lookign into buying a digitial camera in the 3.2MP range. What camera do you have and do you like it?
I was speciffically looking at the Canon A70 and the Nikon Coolpix 3100. everything I see about them makes them pretty close to the same camera. Anybody with alot of experience prefer one brand over the other? P.S. admins, sorry if this isnt where this thread belongs, I was thinking the best place to post would be tilted photography, but it didnt really seem like the right place either. |

check out the olympus C750 Ultra Zoom or some of the other olympus Ultra Zooms... 8x optical zoom is very good
ive got the C 750 Ultra zoom and ive been very pleased with it... its 4 megapixel... the C 740 or 730 might be more along what your looking for while retaining the good optical zoom... most digital cameras only have a 2 or 3x optical zoom and rely on the digital zoom... digital zoom will make your pictures grainy if you go beyond 2 or 3x digital zoom... and your in lubbock right? if ya want to look at mine gimme a pm im sure we can arrange it |
I must recommend http://www.steves-digicams.com/ Great site, very helpfull.

If I had a few hundred bucks to sling around, I would buy a Minolta Dimage Xt. I have a Dimage X, which is a little bigger and only 2 MP. It's still smaller than a deck of cards. Don't, don't, DON'T underestimate the superlative convenience and ease-of-use of a tiny camera that you can take anywhere just by slipping it into your pocket.
Fun to show off, too. |
I've got an A70. I quite like it. It has many features that my D30 has. It's a bit noisier in low light, but that is to be expected.
|
:) i love my olympus C2020Z so much that I have 2 of them... when I have enough $$$ I'd be buying a C5050...
I prefer the Olympus line, but the Nikon line is equal in features and quality. |
The best feature on my camera is the optical zoom. If you want a good mid-range 3MP camera with above average optical zoom, I suggest the Fuji FinePix 3800. It has 6X optical zoom, plus all the features on other similarly priced cameras. Great pictures, great value.

I just got a Sony DSC-P92, 5MP...I love it....I was looking at the A70, however, when I saw the P92, I went for it....I havent regretted it at all...
Pros = MPEG video w/ sound, Compact Design, easy menus, rechargeable batterys and charge included, can accept regular AA batteries as well. Cons = DC adapter not included, takes proprietary Sony MemoryStick technology, not SD Memory Cards :(, somewhat slow modal change. |
Mmmm... Once I get a few hundred I'm going to pick up a cam and shoot some pictures of me and Shyla to pop up in .. a forum :)
Whoohoo! |
Fuji Fineshot, it's a 2 mega pixel camera around $250, it takes better pictures than my Sony Cybershot 3.2 mega pixel camera $350, and Kodak 4 mega pixel camera $500.

Just bought a Concord D2000 ---it is really small, and of coarse the insrtuctions are so damn small you have to have a magnifying lens to read them---it was cheap, and I guess I will get used to it...maybe

I just got 2 to replace my defunct Canon S200.
I bought an Olympus C5050 and a Canon A70 |
I've got a Kodak 3900 zoom w/ Easy share.
3.3 megapixels. It's a little slow. I got the 192 meg Sandisk Compact memory. There are faster memory chips out there. You can do about 190 pictures in 192 meg. Great pictures. I print them out on a HP 810C inkjet w/ cheap photo paper from Costco. I like it. It was about $700 CDN a couple of years ago. |
We just bought the Dimage XT. Great little camera, with the emphasis on little. Fits in a shirt pocket or pants pocket. Takes great photos.

Dano069: AAAAHHHHH SO LUCKY AAAAHHH AHHHHHHAHAH

any of the Nikon coolpix Series.... absolutely incredible photos... go to the photography page to see a few I've done
|
i have an olympus D-560 zoom (3.2 megapixels)
its great, and takes awesome pictures. |
I like the Coolpix's twist-knob to select preset conditions.
At the moment I have an Olympus C200 that makes you go into a menu to change settings, and by the time youve done that you've probably lost the shot, got a parking ticket and forgotten what you were setting for anyway. |
I also have the Minolta dimage Xt. It's a great camera. The internal optical zoom is my favorite feature. Picture quality is great. It can even handle close-up shots, up to around 6 inches away from the subject. The only thing that sometimes bothers me is the speed of the autofocus. It can take a bit of time for it to adjust its brains in low-light conditions, and if you want to take good night shots, you'd better get a tripod! This is my first digital camera.

Canon s200 here, discontinued as of now, but i have had no complaints with it. Great camera, super small and takes great pictures.

I bought an Olympus C740 about a month ago and really like it. 10X optical zoom is what really makes this camera for me.
The only thing I don't like is I haven't found a way to make it imprint the date on the pictures. Hard to believe a camera with this many modes and features won't do this simple trick but if it can, I haven't found it yet. |
Generally a camera will encode the date and time, as well as a load of other information including camera model, flash settings, aperture, etc., in the jpeg file. This extended data is called EXIF. You can see the data in a good picture viewer like ACDSee. You don't have to mar your digital images with an actual timestamp. :)
