"SpyBlocker" Good? Bad? Any reviews?

While researching some other things I ran across a program called "SpyBlocker" which, while seeming quite energetic in the blocking collection of data via webbugs, etc., somehow makes me sit and scratch my head. Most of the blocking seems to take place by using the hosts file to direct most ad fetches and cookie posts to 127.0.0.1

Does anyone have any real experience with the program? Can you review it?

Good and bad experiences would be of interest.

TIA.

In that case, you can use the Kazaa K++ hosts file for free. This does not require Kazaa to be installed on your computer. It's a long list and is updated regularly. 127.0.0.1 is a "null" address, so the ads never reach you. I use this in combination with Mozilla's popup blocker, Spybot Search & Destroy, and a few other doodads.

They don't allow direct linkage at the site, but the main site is http://www.kazaalite.tk/

Check out the Supertrick link on the left-hand side. You can download the file by clicking on "Other" in the Downloads section on the left-hand side.

In addition to Johnny's suggestion I would also recommend Spybot. You can get it from http://security.kolla.de. Not only does it get rid of spyware it "immunizes" your computer and won't allow you to install that spyware again.

I agree... Spybot is the best. Can't go wrong with that one.

While it is true that the ad will never reach you, 127.0.0.1 is not a "null" address. It is the address that points back to your own machine.

Just install Proxomitron.

That blocks all ads by recognizing their URLs and also allows you to do other funky stuff, like block all pop-ups, flashing GIFs, redirects etc. The options are limitless, as it comes with a powerful scripting language.

And it's freeware.

Check out www.proxomitron.info
