I for 1 hate the new media players, i prefer the old simple 6.4 player. But yet i cant seem to uninstall the latest players. I've gotten it so that when i click on a video from the internet 6.4 opens the incoming file,but im stuck with waiting for the whole mpeg to download then it will play(the "opening" window/right click download). Now i know before i installed the new players that when i clicked on a mpeg file from a website, the 6.4 player would open immediatly and i would be able to watch the mpeg after 10% or so was downloaded and it would sorta "stream" like quicktime


Sorry if this is so hard to understand but i cant really explain it any other way, Im pretty sure it has to do with the Folder Options/File Types

I have no idea what you're trying to say but from what I gather you have two problems. :)

1)You're opening videos from the net INSIDE Internet Explorer
2)The default player for your downloaded videos isn't the one you want it to be.

Remedies
1)When you see a link to a video you want to download right-click on it and select "Save Target As..." and then choose where you would like to save the video on your Hard-Drive.
2)When you go to open a video on your computer right-click on the file and select "Open With..." a little window will open, click "Choose Program", a list of programs currently installed on your PC, choose the media player from this list that you wish to view the video with. Then click the check-box which says "Always use this program to open these files."

When i open videos (mpegs) from internet explorer, i want it to open with wm player 6.4 instantly.not show me some "Saving Target As" type window showing the movie file being downloaded to sum TEMP folder

not all movie files types are able to be streamed from a server. I'm pretty sure that .avi, .mpg, .mpeg files cannot be streamed.

Perhaps you are trying to stream .rm, .asf, .wma, or .qt (or whatever quicktime is) files instead?

Mpeg files can be streamed if you make Quicktime the default player for them, but you'll need Quicktime 6 (I think).

k,not streamed but......how do i put this, when u open a mpeg, you are able to view it before the whole file is downloaded r u not?

By the way, Quicktime format is *.mov and *.qt. ;)

No you can't do that, file sharing programs allow you to do it because they give you a temporary download file but IE and most Download Managers do not create a visible file until AFTER the file is completely downloaded. Sucks really.

i swear, before i used 7+ media players, the mediaplayer would open, show you how much is downloaded on the Status Bar(lower bar on the 6.4 player) and when enough is downloaded, it will start playing, w/o the whole movie being downloaded. And i think this is only possible with MPEG files not AVI

What version of Windows and which Media Player version are you using? Let me know and I can tell you how to remove the "supposedly unremoveable" Media Player 9, Media Player 7, or whichever other version you have, to restore your machine to using Media Player 6.4.

Try this:

Start, Run

type in 'mplayer2'

Then go into the preferences in there and reassociate it with all your favorite formats. This should take association away from those bloated new media players.

This is all just from memory...I rarely use windows anymore.

If you want to rollback the mediaplayer to a previous version, try this command...

It is the only way that I know of to get that POS off of your system...as it integrates with the OS.
