Overclocking my 2.4GHz Pentium 4... How?!

Hi there,
I've got a Pentium 4 2.4GHz Processor with 533FSB on a crappy Soltek SL-85DRV-5 motherboard. I had a little look around the BIOS but can't see anything that'll help me overclock the CPU. Any of you guys able to lend a hand or tell me what I should be looking for in the BIOS?

I know 2.4GHz is pretty damn good but I'd still like it to be better!

BTW, I've never overclocked anything ('cept my vid card) 'cause I'm too afraid of burning stuff out, however I'd like to give this a shot for once instead of being a little baby about it.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and my DDR RAM runs at 266MHz :(

if you overclock, you will probably need a better cooling system for your cpu.

my mobo (gigabyte) came with a cd and that had the overclocking utilities on it. check your mobo cd. it might have a proggy.

Be sure you have a spare system around before you attempt this.

touchy stuff... i agree keep it super cool or you'll roast ur processor

I just had a play and my PC wouldn't start up properly, had to reset the BIOS to get anything to work! I also just read that MoBo's that only support a max of 266MHz bus speed on RAM can't be overclocked.

:( I'll keep looking and let you guys know how I go :)

Do a search for reviews on your motherboard. Most mobo reviews include info on how successful overclocking is. Good luck. Overclocking can be fun and it's cool to squeeze a few hundred more MHz out of your CPU. What is NOT cool is killing your chip or having to reinstall Windows. So go in small steps, don't get all crazy and go too high too fast. Trust me on that...

just up your front side bus speed. dont change the multiplier, p4s are mulitpler locked. most likely ur motherboard is autodetecting the cpu speed you have to change that to manual in the bios.
