Mac file/mp3 sharing .. ? ..

I'm addicted to music... but since I've gotten my beautiful iBook, I can no longer use my favorite file sharing program.. namely, soulseek...

any suggestions from other Mac users?
i'm not interested in anything that involves spyware or costs a substantial amount... (kazaa, limewire, etc)

?

thanks!
looks like there's just the Gnutella network for Mac, and different clients for that network =T
damn I wish SoulSeek was available for Mac...

any other suggestions?

been using mlMac which is a GUI to mlDonkey.

Search for hte Mac OS X software thread there are probably a few more in there.

the best solution is to go back to a pc
macs might be better at some things, but mac software is terrible because no one but apple wants to write anything for it (or Carmack/Doom3)

I have just recently switched to a Ibook as well and I had the same problem as you. I did find a program that works for me called Aquisition. It is writen for macs but can also run on a pc. I like the look and feel. It really does work like the mac OS. Also you might want to try Limewire. I was useing Limewire but the interface is a little clunky for me and I could never seem to find the right files I was looking for.

You really should step out of the dark ages, my man.
OS X is a Unix based operating system. This is no longer "Mac-centric" and more and more software is becoming available for Macs. With your attitude, (and mis-informed mindset), computing will not move in a postitive direrction for ANY users.

BTW: I use Limewire right now, for when I have such needs.

Thanx for the constructive comments!! :(

This is all good for me as I'm very close to switching to a Powerbook :D If I can figure out which one I want and how much its going to cost total!!

PulpMind 08-21-2003 01:35 PM

Acquisition seems to be pretty popular...
I'd hate to load multiple things on my computer =P but I guess I'll do that to see which one has more users with the music I'm looking for (IDM, experimental, psytrance, goa...)

anyone heard of DC++ ? and it's ability to run (or not) on Macs?

I use Windows XP for day-to-day work in the office. I have a 15" PowerBook G4 for mobile use. It connects to everything (Windows, UNIX, AppleTalk), runs PC software (using Virtural PC), runs X-Windows and UINX apps, and runs native (Aqua) OS X apps like Photoshop.

You can't go wrong with these new Macs. Aside from the price that is. ;)

juanvaldes 08-21-2003 05:21 PM

d4in: one more troll and your gone.

PulpMind: heard of DC, but no clue about DC++

AP1 08-22-2003 03:05 PM

good stuff. thanks!

PulpMind 08-28-2003 11:54 AM

someone pointed out Poisoned in another thread... link is: http://www.gottsilla.net/software.php?site=poisoned

I havnt' checked any of this out yet, but Acquisition (sp?) and Poisoned deffinetelly seem to be the more popular ones...

I'll post with results... I live in a house that has pretty musically diverse tastes... =)

PulpMind 08-28-2003 11:56 AM

GAH!!!!
I need to upgrade to OSX 10.2
fawk.

juanvaldes 08-28-2003 04:37 PM

I am very pleased with Poisoned (thanks to whoever pointed it out in that thread).

I was annoyed with Aquasition's nagware, and the authors misuse of the GPL, so I switched to mlMac which worked quite well. But Poisoned seems nicer, still need to give it a good workout and let all my downloads in mlMac finish :D

GarthInPittsburgh 08-28-2003 04:43 PM

I recommended poisoned... but my post is gone, or was that another thread?

Anyway, I have a ton of different things, everything except for iSwipe.

One great thing about Poisoned, if you check your CPU usage, you'll see programs like mlmac continue to use up CPU time (a ton of it) even after you quit out of the application. Poisened doesn't, and you can play intensive games like Warcraft III online without having to turn it off, assuming you have cable.

GarthInPittsburgh 08-28-2003 04:46 PM

Err... I can't delete this post?

yours is on the 2nd or 3rd page now =P
yup.

dont' suppose anyone has any idea how I can get a 10.2 application (Poisoned) to work on my 10.1 OS ?
hmm... or anyone want to loan me $150 so I can upgrade? ;)

mlMac using so many resources is not good.. though it also seems pretty popular, soo... sheit...

I should stop procrastinating and just start downloading...

juanvaldes 08-29-2003 10:16 PM

get all the libraries and frameworks ;)

Wait a few months then do the updade to 10.3

tikki 08-31-2003 02:11 AM

Poisoned is my current p2p app of choice. It's nifty :)

You can get it for under $70 if you have ties with any educational institution.
