MusicMatch
Does anyone else use this?
I love the idea of this service and I am a subscriber to this monthly plan, however, I am getting absolutely fed up with the flakiness of their online music portion of the system...as that is the only porition I use extensively... Anyway...does anyone else think that this software is crap, or know how to fix it? Also, are there any other/better sites out there doing what musicmatch's online service does?? (uninstall/reinstall didnt work) :( |
I'm not sure that I understand what your problem is. I use MusicMatch and love it. I rip, burn, and listen to all my MP3's with it.
What version do you use? |
I'm using it - version 8.00. I've got a subscription to the online feed, too (billed quarterly) and have experienced a couple of network issues but nothing major or completely frustrating. In those instances I go to my internal library.
Of course I'm located in San Diego and so are their servers... |
Musicmatch simply put ROCKS, it has the best database to add tags to your MP3's and is quite fast, I don't use it to burn CD's (mainly 'cause I hardly do that anyway) but the rest of the app is fantastic. Two thumbs up!

last used musicmatch back when it was version 6, and even paid for a full lifetime upgrade. My opinion of that program for some time now is that it is bloated eyecandy - it also has poor or nonexistent support for the formats I use now: FLAC/Ape/MusePack (MPC)/AAC/Ogg-Vorbis.
I Do not create any MP3s anymore unless I absolutely have to for my websites, but I will DL them from sites like Emusic.com or when getting Old Time Radio shows on the net. MusicMatch is just too dependent on the mouse for my tastes - Foobar2k lets me do everything from the keyboard and does not require any kind of installation or registry entries (at least the .06x build that I still use) my view of Winamp 3 is not much better, but at least it has support for a decent range of formats (but both WA 2.x and 3 both still feel horribly bulky IMO compared to foobar2k). |

... As for the question at the beginning of this thread, what do you mean by "the online portion of it" ? |
Well, the problems that I seem to be having are related to the online subscription service...which I really like, however, I either have problems with it auto-logging me in (i.e. It fails) or after some period of time, the web pages in the MM browser stop responding to clicks....(i.e. I can no longer make "Play this Artist or Play this and related Artists work)
I am forced to shut the proggy down and restart it in order to restore functionality. Anyone else ever experienced this in MM 8.0? Also, just out of curiousity, does anyone know if MusicMatch are sending any of their subscription money to the artists?? |
I can't help with your problem. I use 7.2 Plus. That's been my favorite version. I tried out 8.0, but I just didn't care for it. It just never seemed to work right for me either.
I have no clue if the artist gets any of the cash. I would doubt it. |
Any version of MusicMatch past 7.2 is crap! They all have volume limiting that can't be turned off, and it ruins all your music.

It's not rock-solid, I will agree. My experiences with it being a problem occur on startup of the software. I sometimes have to kill it and retry (windows XP Pro).
I don't have it remember me for auto-logon as I also use the account at home and it doesn't like it when I'm logged on in two places. |
Ive had it since v5 and it keeps getting worse, but i still use it. Watch out for a corrupt .sys file it creates. Mine went bad and it keeps your computer from booting up, even in safe mode. You have to boot from a floppy and delete or rename the .sys file then your computer will boot up and rebuild the file. Caused me about 3 days of pain before I found the culprit. Evidently it is a common problem so if it hasent happened to you yet, it will eventually.

the wonderful minimalist approach of foobar2k that I absolutely love has soured my views of nearly all of the software players out there. |
I've used it since version 5 or close to. I love it! It's by far the best mp3 program I've seen. True, it may be a little bloated, but it's ease of use and overall functionality are second to none. I stopped upgrading at 7.5 though. I tried 8.0 but didn't like it as much.
