Not computers, but cell phones...
Hey all.
I have been thinking recently about getting a cell phone, and, though I know services vary from area to area (and country to country, damn me, I'm a Canuck), I figured that actual models of cell phones themselves should be similar throughout North America. So, instead of going to a Fido booth in the mall or somesuch, and asking for the guy there to sell me something nice, I thought I would ask a group of people who tend to know more about things than the commission-seeking salesperson. I want a cell phone that is durable, mostly. I also want as good battery life as I can get, and good reception, too. Yeah, I want everything. Except for size. as long as it fits in my pocket, or on a beltclip, I don't much care. I don't need something imported from Japan that's half the size of my thumb, thanks. :p I was wondering if anyone had any advice to which models or makes of cell phones would be the best to go after, for reception and battery-life. Something that won't shatter when I drop it'd be nice too, since I can barely stand still without knocking things over. Klutz. Thanks! |

The sonys have good battery lifes, but poor receptionm, bad gaming performance too nokias have good reception, good battery life, good gaming. audiovox/curitel are ok, they feel a bit cheap.
out of all the cellphones i have , i can't say theres one i am really happy with, although sprint ( which isnt available up there i think) has some of my favourite the A600 is great, pity sprint sucks I liked the p800 then i realised it had so many bugs, started using the T610 and its really slow though its built really well. and bad reception, back to the a600 Verizon ( again not available i dont think ) carries the A600 on their version which is the A610, identical phones cept for service type and j2me vs brew. Nokia 7210, wierd keyboard, small, great battery , good performance 3650 clunky very wierd keyvoard, ok battery life, great performance. i bounced my A500 off the ground from ear height on a concrete worked great after, droped my audiovox 8500 and LG 6000 two feet on to carpet and they both died. T720 is a drop and explode, you can put it back together, however the phone itself sucks the S/E T300 is great battery, and good reception and small too Nokia has the 3586 coming out soonish that is encased in a thickish rubber case. You'll probably end up with a tri band phone. Best thing is to get a small light cheap phone if you are klutzy and put it in one of those thicker leather cases designed for it, nearly all cell phones seem to self destruct. |
Sprint and Verizon are available up here!!! We have everything you guys do, honest.
But... yeah. I was thinking of a leather (or a foam/rubber) case, because I'm liable to drop it everywhere. |
ahh i didnt think they were coz one of my guys just moved up to toronto and he can't get hi ssprint phone to work..
Verizion and sprint has some nice phones then, pretty tough, teh 4900 can take a beating and its cheap. |

It has an AWESOME battery life compared to other phones I've used (Nokia 5185i - an older one but the really common phone a few years back) and a few different earlier non-flip Keyocera's and Motorolla's. I had never owned a flip-phone before and to be honest, I don't really care for it, but only because they seem more fragile than non-flip phones. I dunno. Just my 2 cents. Plus, if you got it, go with Verizon. I've been with Alltel, Cellular One, Verizon and T-Mobile and by far, VErizon is much better and has more helpful customer service. |
i mean drop and explode that all the bits come flying off, but you can put it back together afterwards, ie thats it ok
though it does depend how you drop it, i have a 720i sitting in little pieces. |
