Help please. Annoying pop-up screen even when IE isn't open. Occurring every 1hr
Hi There,
I'm not a geek so please be kind to me ![]() Something happened yesterday morning (I don't know what, sorry) but ever since I've been getting an IE window pop-up appearing every hour (the URL for this is http://content.netvenda.com/sites/fg...l?file=games14 ) - don't go there, just showing. I went out last night so shut down pretty much everything, all of my internet apps, so outlook, IE, ICQ, YIM, MSN Messenger and when I came back there were 3 of the above mentioned pop-up on my screen. I've rebooted and it's still appearing? What do I do? Any ideas would be much appreciated. (had to edit, should have read the forum notices first!) OS: Windows XP, V5.1, service pack 1 Processor: AMD 2400 motherboard: Soltek SL-75FRV RAM: 512k HD: 80 mg, non partitioned Browser: IE V6.0.2800 Thanks, Julie Last edited by curveedv8; 08-11-2003 at 04:40 PM.. |

Go download AdAware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) and run it against your computer.
Chances are, you accidentally downloaded spyware that keeps on making popups appear on your computer.

If its windows messenger service, i dunno if any of the spy programs check for that.
just turn it off you dont need it, do go to the " start / run " menu type- > services.msc then look for "messenger" service and disable it, nothing really needs it. (right click it, select properties then set the startup type to disabled) after you do that, right click 'messenger" again and select "stop" if it is still running This is not the same as MSN messenger, so dont worry about disabling that Last edited by charliex; 08-11-2003 at 07:17 PM.. |

If that fails get both Ad-aware and spy bot. they both catch stuff the other misses. |

ad-aware caught something called rapidblaster which was an active process - cleaned it all up and robert's your mothers brother. All didn't realise how much porn I'd been looking at since last cookie cleanup!
I'll get spybot as well. Thanks for the help ![]() |

I recommend using Ad-Aware and Spybot together, since one sometimes catches stuff that the other doesn't. Spybot can also block many future covert installations with its Immunize function.

Don't forget spyware blaster.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html SpywareBlaster SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed. |
