Let's say i am downloading a file (a legal one) from irc and the size is quite huge.

how exactly do i resume the download?

i tried it this morning (resuming) and the file came out corrupted.

is there any guarenteed way to resume files off of irc?

but from my experience, i've never had a resume problem from IRC, and tbh i've d/l ooh, several many gigs from IRC...

what kind of file?

and how do you know it's corrupted? sfv check, or an error msg from your unpacking proggie, or what?

mo info needed.

it was a .tar file, so i unzipped all the contents (which were .r* files) into a folder.

then i tried to uncompress those files and winrar gave the archive is corrupt message. (also said unexpected ending of the archive or something).

it sucked real bad cuz the file was 1.6 gig's.

yeah, standard packaging pretty much.

alls i can suggest is first, are you SURE the download totally finished? try resuming it just to make sure, even a few KB's can mess up a rar archive...

is there an sfv in the tar? there *should* be.

^freeware and excellent sfv checker.
will tell you which files are missing/corrupt.

any other files in the tar? like an .nfo file? open with notepad if there is.

worst case scenario - whomever tared it up fucked up...
the sfv will tell you if it's just one bad file at the end, or a bunch of the last few files missing...and in that case, well it *may* be possible to just find the missing file(s) somewhere.

feel free to pm me if you need more help.

Yeah, SiN is correct. Check the sfv if it came with one, to find out what exactly is corrupted. If it's only one-two files, many channels have an incomplete rar service, or if not, there are public incomplete channels.

Another thing to note when downloading off IRC -
I'm making a couple of assumptions here, but the .tar format with a bunch of rars is generally used for XDCC file serving bots. With these, you have to be careful, because sometimes the files are different (eg. Site .nfo's can be accidentally put on one bot, but not on the other), even if they have the same name. So if you resume your download from a different bot than the one you started with, chances are, your download might be corrupt.

I prefer viewing SVCDs on my TV using my DVD player. If the mpeg2's will burn to SVCD on Nero, it's always nice to store the cds somewhere and clear up HDD space.

the bin file was an image of the mpeg2's, but i could view 'em on the dvd player. it didnt wanna play it.

and it wouldnt play on my pc either (video was fucked).

so i had to extract the mpeg 2 without some kinda filters from the bin file to see the movie.
