Finding old software

Earlier this week, I decided I should probably move up in the world, and try to learn C++. Most of the editors that I've been pointed to I haven't liked, but one of my friends a couple years back gave me a a compiler called Microsoft Visual C++ Version 1 and it did everything I needed it to do and wasn't a resource hog like some of the other ones that I seen. I've looked all over the net for it but as yet, have not been able to find it. Does anyone know where that can be found, or where and old software can be found?

I'd imagine finding VC++ v1.0 would be hard, and I know it'd be a warez copy. There are other free ones that are quite good, though. I use vim personally, though it has a bit of a learning curve. It's worth it in the end, though. Another choice would be WinEdit (shareware, nags you at startup, and I'm not sure when it was updated last), <a href="www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/default.asp">SharpDevelop</a> (used primarily for C#, ASP, HTML, XML code) and <a href="http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html">Dev-C++</a> (free, looks like how VC++ 1.0 did, if I remember correctly).
