What web browser?
I am just curious as to what people use for browsing the web... I used to use IE6 but about 2 months ago switched over to Opera 7 for tabbed browsing. I actually prefer Opera now (with the IE6 skin :)). I just wanted to know what the people of TFP use...
Safari
Opera 7.0 for Windows
Pheonix (Mozilla) for Linux Opera 7.0beta for linux is too crappy looking to even try. |
I use IE 6 because it's bundled with Windows. I hate having multiple copies of that same type of software on my PC so I'll make due with IE. I've got it pretty well locked down compared to the default install.
I'd probably use Safari on the Mac if I bothered to spend the 10.3 upgrade money. As for Linux, prob go with a flavor of Mozilla because that's what people tell me to use. :) |
safari & omniweb in conjunction w/ an old release of Camino for the random thing that won't load elsewhere.
ie all the way
mozilla (the stable release, but only if nightly builds are too scary)
"Find text as you type /" "Find links as you type '" tabbed browsing, i could go on... good. |
mozilla!
phoenix (mozilla) for all of my computers, windows and linux
I alternate between Netscape 7.0 and Internet Explorer 6. It depends on where I'm surfing. I prefer to work with Netscape, but it just seems like there are times when Internet Explorer works better.
I almost always use Phoenix (aka Firebird) but occassionally I'll use IE.
Phoenix nightly build. LOVE IT.
I switch between Mozilla and Phoenix/Firebird. Mozilla is much more stable, for now.
Mozilla/Phoenix (Firebird)
I've never been happier with a browser. |
Konqueror most of the time in Linux, sometimes Mozilla/Phoenix/Firebird
Mozilla/Phoenix/Firebird always in Windows |
i was wondering the exact thing recently. i use ie normally but i just started playing with mozilla/firebird (aka phoenix)/k-meleon .. so far there's not much pulling me away from ie.
I really liked IE6 but I started getting nothing but red x's where pics used to be so I switched to firebird which was just too slow in my opinion, now I am using opera and like it waaaay better than any of them.
I use IE6 cause I'm too lazy to download something else.
Konqueror or Mozilla
IE |
I love Opera, but am also giving Mozilla and Firebird a shot.
It wil be hard to pull me away from Opera though, as it just seems to have a lot of great features, tabbed browsing, and I love the mouse gestures. |
I wanted to use Pheonix but it didn't work with my internet bank so I use IE.
Opera
and occasionally IE for the odd site that refuses to display in Opera |
Well Im going to download Mozilla today and give it a try. I hope its as good as everyone says! I hear it doesnt have as many popups! That would be great!
AT |
Phoenix or IE depends on tyre of surfing
I love the tabs in Phoenix IE works better for picture posts |
Recent 'zilla convert.
/now despise IE |
i use mozilla on all my machines. but the rest of the family uses ie6

IE came with my PC and i have been upgradeing and this is what i got
Been usin Mozilla for awhile now, ever since I fried windows on this computer, and linux was the only thing to work. Had a decent time with it so far. Kinda miss the quickness of the load, but it still is nice being able to say, hey, least I'm not usin windows.
I use Mozilla mostly, but I do use IE 6 for some sites.
Netscape 7.02 is nice (don't go anything earlier)
-tabbed browsing -popup killers I know mozilla has the same things, but I have been a netscape fan ever since Netscape 2.0 (although they almost lost me with Netscape6... eww) however, fi I am just looking for a quick tidbit of information (text), then I generally go with lynx. Nothing like the speed of good ol' text browsers! |
Another Mozilla user here. I love the tabbed browsing feature, and I never see a pop-up.
used ie for years then switched to opera :)
mozilla and ie6 used to use opera before 7 but didnt see the need after i got mozilla.
I use mozilla and konqueror both.

safari here
I like mozilla for the popup and tabbed browsing. Another thing is that this is a shared computer and my sister uses IE, which she prefers. This way we can have our own separate browsers and keep the settings the way we like.
I used to use Opera untill I reformatted my computer. Have been to lazy to reinstall it. IE gets the job done so I havent really needed Opera.
Bow to the Red Dinosaur! Mozilla to the masses! I've used Netscape 2.02, 4.5, and 4.7. Netscape 6 and 7 sucked the turkey's nuts, so I used IE for a while. Now I use Mozilla, and love it!
NETSCAPE ALL THE WAY....oh wait....it blows.......sorry... my mistake.. (IE6)
sweet, I just tiped the survey in favor of mozilla vs. ie6. 23 to 24 ;)
I can't stand Netscape, never tried Opera, but I use windows, so IE it is! :P
I'm a die hard Firebird user.
IE, Netscape 7.02 and Opera 7.10. I try to use them all equally (don't ask me why, I'm just weird like that) but Opera is still way too buggy, so I'm waiting until those bloody Russians can get it together and provide a solid build.
Mozilla runs pretty good using KDE on Redhat 9.
basic ie, might have to check some of the others out.
ie here... tried mozilla and opera, but i found them just plain dumb for my uses.
i like it simple :D |
I'm content with IE, haven't bothered to try anything else. A browsers a browser.... right?
as of last nite, i use Opera.
was using IE (MyIE actually, for the tabbed browsing) so far, so good. i may try Mozilla and see which i like better..ive used Phoenix a bit in the past and liked it. :) |

Try out Opera and Phoenix or Mozilla. Big differences, not the least of which is being more secure than IE. |
MyIE2
MyIE2 here. I love everything about it... I tried Mozilla, but it never seems to display web pages correctly. And yes, I know that's the fault of the web page designers much more than the Mozilla programmers, but that doesn't fix the problem. :)
I'm just too lazy to install anything that doesn't come with the OS or can update itself (auto windows update)

Windoze Box: Opera 6.1
Mandrake Box: Konqueror |
On my Mac - Safari
Windows - IE Linux - Mozilla |
Mozilla, always.
three cheers for open-source software. |
I use Opera 7
I tried Mozilla, but the tabbed browsing isn't as good. It won't load a new page into a tab when you click it. Opera's mouse gestures are a lot better too. Whenever you go back and forth, it doesn't reload the page everytime which makes it much quicker. For pages with lots of pics (titty board) Opera sucks. It scrolls very choppy when loading the pics. |
Definately Mozilla/Pheonix where possible.

1) Right click and chose "Open link in new tab" 2) Go to Edit \Preferences\Tabbed Browsing and Check ""Middle-click, Control+click, or Control+enter on links in a web page" |
I use Mozilla at home and Firebird at work. I will never go back to IE after having the features of tabbed browsing and pop-up killers. I have trouble now and then with plug-ins but I have been very pleased with both. For those who have never used tabbed browsing: Try it, it will keep you forever. Dedicate a couple of days to getting used to it, and you will wonder how you ever used IE6. It will make both the internet and porn a whole new experience. :D
Safari but thinking about switching back to Omniweb.
My first choice is Opera 6.05 (6.06b when I reinstall) with O7.11 a close second - mozilla is a very good backup and IE is banned from connecting to the internet in my firewall settings immediately after windows is installed.
I use Moz or Konqueror in linux normally |
WOW...Mozilla is actually ahead of IE6 right now at 40/36 -- that's pretty cool! waiting for a new Firebird release....
I use opera. mozilla and IE...I like them all for different reasons.
I use IE for my default browser because it starts up quickly..it works with links like aim greetings, and yahoo mail. I use Opera when I plan on having alot of webpages open. And Mozilla is great for the add-ons you can install (spiderzilla, leech etc). I'm terrible at just sticking to one. :) |
Opera mostly, ided as IE though...
Lynx the rest. Real men look at binary dumps of jpgs. |
Mozilla. Used to only use IE, but I like the tabbed browsing and I don't have any problems with popups. :)
I use Mozilla as my primary browser on each of the platforms I use. Second choices vary, though: IE6 on Windows, Konqueror on Linux, and OmniWeb 4.5 beta on Mac.
Opera has been my browser of choice since version 7 came out. It might look like a bloated mess when you first install it, but after some customizations and tweaking, its a very slick and speedy browser, much better than anything Microsoft can throw at it these days.
I just upgraded to Mozilla 1.4 and the download manager wasn't working so I got Firebird and am using that. I need to figure out an easy way to transfer my bookmarks though.
Also, when I access my own web page, it looks like some gophers made black tunnels across it...never had that problem before I updated to Moz 1.4. Very puzzling to me. |

i have been using opera since version 5 i think. i LOVE the find in page search in the toolbar and i really like mouse gestures. i also like being able to save all the pictures in a web page (titty board).those are the reasons i havent switched to mozilla...
is there a good and easy way to save all the pictures in mozilla/phoenix? |
Safari all the way! Talk about slim and fast, plus it's an Apple product <wink>
Mozilla/Firebird has everything the competition has, and usually more. They only reason to ever not use it is if a site is made to only work with IE, and it's usually still possible even then, unless the site uses all sorts of propriety non-standard MS crap that any sensible browser cannot understand. In such cases, I will load up IE to view the page, but this happens very rarely as I have found that most websites that don't work with Mozilla aren't really worth looking at.
Lynx ;)
IE 5.0
I use one called MyIE2. I think the tabbing on this is superior. Has pop-up blocker, mouse-gestures, just a ton of features. Never had a problem with it.
Mozilla/Firebird (as of today.) Faster for dialups, less rexes. Also like saying NO to The Man From Redmond.
<a href="http://www.netcaptor.com/">NetCaptor</a>
Mozilla for windows, the best browsing experience on any platform - by far.
Opera 7 on linux (mostly), with mozilla used when i want media other than pics. *cough* porn *cough* |
Mozilla Firebird on both Linux and Windows.
Mozilla love the tabbed browing since I don't have to open up 100 windows to go on the internet.
MyIE2
I started with Mozilla, and had some wierd crash where it lost all my info, so now I use Opera. Love the tabbed browsing, remembers my passwords, built in pop-up stopper, stable, and lot of other things I'd probably miss about it if I switched back to another browser.
