Extra Monitor

How do you set up your external monitor to a lap top, so that it has a different picture. I know it can be done, my son has it, but doesn't remember how he did it?

Depends on which operating system you're using. For both Windows and Mac, if you go into Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (OS X) and look for display options, you should be able to find what you're looking for.

Thank you for your reply. I can get the same picture on one or both screens, but I haven't found a way to have 2 different screens. I want to be able to watch a ball game on the big screen, and look at dirty pictures on TFP on the other screen.

I am running Windows 7

In the control panel you need to connect the second monitor and set it to dual view via MULTIPLE DISPLAYS change it to EXTEND THESE DISPLAYS.

When I do that, my lap top works fine, but the monitor only shows the wallpaper screen! Just a nice picture, but no computer.

I can drag a window over, but when I open it, it opens on the lap top, not the monitor. should I be double clicking it or something?

Thank you for trying to help me! Have tried that, can't resize it, any action I take on the window in the monitor reverts to the screen on the computer.

What do you mean by 'open it'? Anything you drag over should already be open, and if you drag a window over, you've won...isn't getting a window over there what you were trying to do?

thank you for your reply. What I am trying to do is have one thing on the monitor and something else on the computer screen. I know this can be done as my son has done it on his, but can't remember how he did it. Also the geek at Best Buy said it could be done, but he wasn't sure how.

What I want to do is watch the baseball game on the monitor and surf the internet on the computer at the same time.

Yeah, you said that already. But from your description of being able to drag a window onto your second monitor, you should have already achieved that goal...if you can drag the window of the browser streaming the baseball game onto your monitor, then there it will be! Mission Accomplished!

I'm not sure what you're trying to say when you say "but when I open it, it opens on the lap top" since any windows you can drag to the monitor are, by definition, already open.

Thanks for the help everyone. By mistake I figured it out. You have to open the window on the computer and slide the opened window to the monitor. Then it works fine.
