Thinking about Changing to an iPhone
Now that Verizon will offer them, I'm considering going from my HTC Imagio to an iPhone.
I'm a little conflicted, however, as I've one or two people tell me they don't care for them, and several tell me they love them. I do synchronize with an outlook calendar/contacts, it's my understanding this can be done pretty simply through iTunes. I'd like to hear opinions from a broader perspective than one or two acquaintances, any thoughts out there?

I'm not sure how the updating schedule will go for the iPhone 5 but if Verizon gets it at the same time AT&T does I would wait for that, which will probably be this summer.

Since I know very little about iPhones, could you expand on that a bit? I can last until summer if its the right thing to do.

Well, knowing Apple, they will have a new iPhone coming out this year because they tend to release a new one each year, if I recall correctly. I don't know what they will have as upgrades from the iPhone 4 to their new iteration but I'm sure they will be worth waiting for.
I also don't know if Apple has some sort of deal with AT&T saying that they will get the next generation of phone as an exclusive for a certain period of time before releasing it to Verizon but if AT&T and Verizon get the new phone at the same time then I would say that it would definitely be worth it to wait. This is all speculation on my part though, maybe someone else will know more.

First of all keep in mind that it is a question of religion.
Apple has announced that the iPhone version 5 will have a new CPU. I don't have an iPhone mainly because I dislike the hype Apple creates around all their products. I have talked to few that have iPhones and all of them have admitted that from business-use standpoint the iPhone has nothing that other high-end smart phones do not have. All cool features and applications that I have seen for iPhones go into the the fun and games category. Yours ZB.

That said, I'm going to invest in an iPad when v2 comes out since it's phenominal for my business uses. It's the new thing for my cohorts, and I'm just holding off for the new version.

Aside from an actual tactile QWERTY keypad, I don't know what it does that the iPhone doesn't. I know what it does do, though.. burn through battery life and have a sucky browser. I've never seen a browser worse than the one that the new BB's come with; its render time, load time, even cache size is phenomenally poor. I do see the need for remote-wipe on BB, since it can carry more sensitive data. The iPhone can be made to do the same thing; I will definitely acknowledge that it is less user friendly, but it can be done. It is all seamless, and I've never had a problem with it like I did on previous phones. I'm a tinkerer by trade and even like to tinker at home, but one thing I learned about mobile devices is that I really don't want to tinker at all. I want them to work consistently and smoothly everytime I pull it out of my pocket, so I can do what I need to do and put it back away. I don't want to have to figure out if I have the right version of Android or if I need to recompile some files or what - I want to know that when I download an app it's probably been downloaded and tested by 10,000 users before me and thousands after me. It just works. I'm a total convert, at least in the mobile space. I'll never own a Mac.

I don't even mind the lack of Flash capability on my iPhone. I actually haven't really played with too many androids and I hate the teeny blackberry keyboard, so I can only say what I like about my iPhone. I only have a 3GS, but it does everything I need it to do and it does it well and simply... My calendar syncs every time I plug it into the computer via Google/Gmail calendars, my email pops up all the time, it reads .pdfs, .docx, .xls, etc as email attachments, I can check my work Outlook mail via webmail, watch movies, check the prices on items in stores to see if I can get it cheaper, get out of obnxious meetings with Fake Caller, find a restaurant or store, win arguments when I know I'm right, and help me find my way to trader Joe's when I'm in an unfamiliar city. If it would just dispense my vitamins instead of merely reminding me to take them, it would be perfect. And I have both windows and apple products. I also have a new LG Octane for work... it's okay.

I don't see how anyone can prefer a blackberry over an iPhone for productivity in any way. Blackberry's are awful. I can understand the argument for Android phones, I love my Droid but I'm going to try the iPhone 5 when it hits verizon, but there is no way I can ever see an argument for blackberry's. A lot of companies are actually switching over from blackberries to iPhones if I remember correctly.

SirLance, do you have a Mac or PC at home? I've found syncing contacts and calendars from Thunderbird/Windows Live/etc. to be quite a hassle with my Windows PC, vs. my Mac, which is incredibly easy.
If you have a Mac, get an iPhone. It's that simple. They work perfectly together, truly. The tandem experience is unmatched by any other. If you are on a Windows machine, don't discount the iPhone, but know there's some hassle in syncing compared to a Mac. It's a bit easier with Outlook, but you'll probably need to do some googling. |

This is what I see with the Iphone: it is great if you want something basic/simple.
But I just upgraded my blackberry which was great but now i have an android phone and it's really like having a small computer that is also a phone. Everything my desktop can do, this seems to do as well. But the iOs is a strong platform. I still use my Itouch and I am happy with the music portion of it. Although I can't believe how easy I got over Itunes with the android phone. Fucking drag and drop and i'm done. I even download songs from my server wirelessly.
