Are pst files backwards compatible?
Very long story, but essentially I'd like to take a pst file from Office Outlook 2007 and import it into Office 2000. Is this possible? If not would there be another way of transferring email and contacts?
thanks  |
Why anyone would want to use the abortion that is Outlook 2000 is beyond me, but basic contacts should be backwards compatible from 2007 to 2000.
If your enterprise is using Exchange Server (particularly Exchange 2007) you may have other backwards compatibility issues. |

There is a caveat to this "yes" and that is that it depends on whether when you created the PST file you selected:
* - "Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst)" - this is compatible with office 2003, 2007 and 2010. * - "Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst)" - this works with every form of office, but does not support some non western type (Arabic and Chinese for example can be lost). If you have trouble, you probably picked the first type but should have picked the second type. All is not lost! Re-import the new PST into 2007, re-export it as the old type, and Robert is your mother's brother. |
